COURTNEY Akkari, Carolyn Mellor and Karen Murray each scored a double at last Saturday’s Northern Region show at Portmore, the last qualifying leg of the region’s summer league, which has its finals today at Castle Irvine, Necarne.

British Dressage List 3 judge Julie Green assessed Akkari and Mellor in their Graded classes, awarding the former and her Hanoverian gelding Bernabeo 78.65% in the 10-runner Preliminary DI8, while Mellor just had to see off one rival to land the Medium BD75 with Ballett’s Bellissima (68.65). Both combinations brought up their doubles uncontested before Dermot Cannon (List 1) in the young horse section, Akkari landing the four-year-old class on Bernabeo (byBenicio), (79), while Mellor and her Westphalian mare Ballett’s Bellisima (by Ballettmeister) won the six-year-old class on 72.

Murray’s uncontested double was recorded on her Dutch Warmblood gelding VSH Gangster, a 13-year-old Zambuka gelding, in the Prix St George (65%) and the Intermediate I (63.53), both judged by Cannon. Of the six starters in the Elementary DI52, Green awarded her highest score (68.61%) to Craig Hills on his eight-year-old Maximilion mare, High Hopes Tuxita.

Roma Oakes won Novice DI27A, while in the Green-judged Novice DI21, Linda McIlwaine and Nicole Robinson both scored 70%. Robinson had the higher collective mark of 66 (compared to 64.5).
