THE victory of Ceallach in the concluding Bar One Racing ‘Price Boosts Across All Channels’ Handicap over a mile and a half put the cap on a four-timer for champion jockey Colin Keane at Dundalk last Friday night.

This four-year-old gelding was a warm order 4/7 favourite to account for his seven rivals. He raced close to the pace and Keane sent him about his business a furlong and a half down. They were also holding a staying-on Tyson Fury and came in by three quarters of a length for owner Paul Rooney, and trainers Michael Halford and Tracey Collins.

“It was a race we picked out from his last run for him,” Collins said. “He has had a very consistent year and it is good that he has finished the year on a high. He moved very well and Colin gave him a lovely ride. We are delighted with him. He handles the surface up here so well that he will probably come back.”

Winning spree

Keane began his winning spree on I Am Superman (7/2 favourite) in the Bar One Racing ‘Bet €10 Get €50 Sign Up Offer’ Handicap.

This Footstepsinthesand in the gelding showed his class as he powered away from the opposition approaching the final furlong. He swept home by a decisive three and a half lengths.

Owner/trainer Michael O’Callaghan said: “There was a lot on him I suppose coming back from Australia, back to Ireland and then going to Dubai where he ran well and was placed in a Group 2 out there. Then he came back, tipped away during the summer and just freshened him up.

“He just has his enthusiasm back, he was flat after all the travelling both from Australia to Dubai and back to Ireland again.”

Hurricane Helen was steered home by Keane in the first division of the Story Of Dundalk Stadium Book Buy Online Handicap over the mile for owners Derek Dunne and Martin W Walsh.

The 8/1 shot travelled well over the mile trip and was ridden into a narrow lead inside the final furlong. She then came home best to score by half a length.

Trainer Christopher Timmons said: “That’s her first run for us, so we are still learning about her. She has settled into the yard well and into our routine. She has been working well - her work has been good, but I think it was an ordinary kind of race.

“Colin said she would have no bother going up in trip either. She might be versatile that way.”

Keane teamed up successfully with 7/4 favourite Apercu in the Dundalk Stadium Gift Vouchers Available Online Maiden over the extended mile and a quarter.

She got off the mark on her third outing after getting the better of Dawn Rider in the closing stages. The Team Valor International LLC filly went on by a length and a-quarter at the line.

Keane said: “She has progressed from run to run, and I’d say she is a filly that would appreciate going a bit further. I’d say that is when you will see the best of her.”

Declan McDonogh, on the runner-up Dawn Rider, was suspended for eight days for frequency with the whip.

Ryan and Inishmot Prince score eighth win at Dundalk

INISHMOT Prince (4/1) and James Ryan teamed up to win for the eighth time at Dundalk when landing the Christmas Party Nights At Dundalk Stadium Handicap over five furlongs.

Oliver Curtis’ five-year-old gelding really found his groove as he stayed on into second at the furlong pole. Ryan drove him to the front in the final 100 yards and the duo claimed the first prize by a length and a quarter.

“Tonight was probably the best I’ve seen him. If anything, it looks like he is getting better. He is probably travelling better than he has done too. He has been in serious order at home, he has been very well,” trainer Tom McCourt said.

After I Am Superman’s win, Michael O’Callaghan doubled up with in-form Sioux Princess in the Gateway Hotel Dundalk Race & Stay Apprentice Handicap over a mile and a half.

She closed a quarter of a mile out and came with her challenge a furlong down. She gamely stayed on best under Jamie Powell to prevail by a neck at 18/5 for owner Paul Callan.

O’Callaghan said: “She is after winning three of her last four which is hard to do. She is staying inside that 65 bracket. Hopefully, she might stay in it. When she goes out of the 65 bracket, I might step her up in trip then.”

Prominent-racer Raknah (10/3) fended off 7/4 favourite The Old Nine by a neck at the end of a mile in the Irishinjuredjockeys.com Maiden for the Blessingndisguise Partnership.

Shane Foley made full use of stall two on Jessica Harrington’s juvenile and his mount showed fortitude when challenged in the closing stages.

The jockey said: “She can be just a little bit forward going early doors and she did take me down the back. She relaxed down around the bottom and I got a little breather into her. In fairness, she has picked up and won well.”

Comfort Line justified favouritism by the narrowest margin of a nose under Adam Caffrey in division 2 of the Story Of Dundalk Stadium Book Buy Online Handicap.

He shaded a battle with Leabaland to reward backers who took the 7/2 on the six-year-old.

Trainer Ado McGuinness said: “He’s a funny old horse and last week he didn’t travel over a mile and two. Today, he was tanking over a mile, so he’s just one of those type of horses but a good fun horse. He has been a bit frustrating, but at least he has a win now for Martin (White & Dooley Thoroughbreds).”

Caffrey picked up a four-day suspension for frequency with the whip.
