DON’T you just love it when a plan comes together?

About six years ago I set up the It’s All About The Girls Syndicate. Every year we ask bloodstock agent Patrick Cooper of the BBA to buy two fillies at Goffs for us and they are trained by Jessica Harington.

It’s based on a model I had launched in Australia a year earlier. Our first purchase was a A$50,000 yearling filly named Global Glamour. Trained by Gai Waterhouse, she won $1.5 million and was sold for another $1.5 million.

We’ve also had great success with the Irish syndicates, starting with Chicas Amigas, then listed winner Sparkle’njoy, and now Youcrackmeup. We’ve had more than 10 winners and there is a lot to look forward to.

Anyone can join the syndicate as long as you’re female. It’s a €6,500 one-off payment. That gets you a share in two fillies with training fees covered for two years. There are no monthly bills – that’s the beauty of it.

I was amazed so many of the girls turned out on Monday night. We had a fabulous lunch in Morans in Oranmore, left our cars there and got a bus to the track.

That night we stayed in the Harbour View Hotel and I can tell you the filly pulled out a lot better than we did!

There are a few well-known racing industry faces in the syndicate but there are loads of ladies who are just involved for the social side and they love it. We regularly visit Jessie’s yard, champagne mornings, and so on. It’s all about having fun.

Youcrackmeup did not race at two, so she is still improving and who knows what we could do with her next. She could even go jumping. We’ll leave it to the experts, Jessie and Kate. We also have two two-year-olds coming up, yet to race.

I must thank Patrick Cooper, who does such a great job with a small budget. Typically we have around 30 members each year and we spend between €20,000 and €30,000 on each purchase.

The Goffs Orby Sale is not too far away. Get in touch with me if you’re interested.
