THE Big Breakaway, Champagne Platinum, Brewin’upastorm, Next Destination and Bacardys are the last five horses to have won a four-year-old maiden at Quakerstown and Saint Davy (93++) looked to have more than enough star quality with his own winning debut last Sunday to suggest he is more than up to upholding that roll of honour of subsequent graded performers.
The writing was on the way for his rivals some way out as he returned unchallenged and looks to have plenty of gears. Aubis Walk (82++) represented the same connections and she was just as authoritative to suggest she is an above-average mare.
Marinero (110++) is value for more than the winning margin having been eased close home to remain unbeaten for the season and getting better than Samanntom in doing so, while Merry Moves and Pennywell Girl (79+) would look better than your typical older-mares’ maiden winner.
Spectacle
Mighty Stowaway and Winged Leader (112+) deserved to share the spoils at Loughbrickland having served up a spectacle for racegoers, with Gaelic Park (88+) looking a strong stayer to outbattle a more experienced rival to make his winning debut, a feat matched by Lost In Transit (91+) in the opener.
At Knockmullen House, Benefits Jeu (88++) produced arguably one of the more notable winning performances in the older maiden division this term as he clocked the quickest time on the card to beat a hunter chase runner-up by eight lengths for what was his debut for new connections.
He will certainly be worth following into winners’ company.
