Round-up

THERE’s nothing Wilson Dennison likes more than seeing his colours carried to success at his home track of Loughanmore. And that’s even if they are on an event horse – as was the case last Saturday when his granddaughter, Anna McCaldin, landed the three-runner EI110 (J) with her mother Caroline’s Albert VI.

Anna Corinne White held a commanding lead after dressage on Kilcoltrim Dora (26 penalties) ahead of Lucy Kayes on Slievenisky Shamrock (31.3).

McCaldin was last of the three at this stage with the Dutch Warmblood gelding Albert VI (36.3) but, in contrast to her rivals, she was clear over the coloured poles.

However, White kept the pressure on to the end, going clear and beating the clock across the country for a total of 38 while, with the addition of 1.2 cross-country time penalties, McCaldin narrowly claimed victory on 37.5. Kayes had problems on both jumping phases.

This was 16-year-old McCaldin’s first success on Albert VI, the 17-year-old Timeless gelding who was previously campaigned by Alannah Kelly, a member of Ireland’s bronze medal-winning team at the recent European Young Riders’ championships.

There were only three starters also in the EI110 (P), all of whom erred in the show jumping phase. This class too developed into a match which was won by the highly-consistent Molly O’Connor and her father Paul’s traditionally bred Coolnaleen Rebel (34) ahead of Erin Mathieson with Longwood Dawn (35.8).

There were two all-the-way successes at EI100 level.

In the 12-runner Junior section, Abby Cummiskey recorded her second win of the campaign when completing on her winning dressage score with Sandi Thompson’s 16-year-old British-bred gelding Crackerjack VIII.

Kitty Cullen rode two of the six runners in the pony division where the 12-year-old experienced both sides of the sport being eliminated with TBS Inspector Sparrow but making all to record her third win of the season on Jane Hancock’s Coppenagh Spring Sparrow (26.3).

Only three of the seven starters in the EI90 (P) got to the finish line and here there was a clear-cut success for Erin McMcClernon and Sundance III who once again dropped down a level having had problems at Tullymurry.
