ELAINE O’Connor recorded an all-the-way win in the Stablecomfort EI90 at The Clare last Saturday on the Irish Sport Horse mare Tullymurry Masha, whose total of 24.7 penalties included 1.2 for time across the country.

The eight-year-old Camiro de Haar Z bay, who was bred by O’Connor’s mother Marian Turley out of the Song Of Freedom mare Tullymurry Summer, is usually the mount of O’Connor’s husband David, who was occupied by his acting career on Saturday. Last time out, David and Tullymurry Masha were third of 15, on their dressage score, at Hazeldene.

Jennifer Gilchrist finished second, on her first phase score, with her father Daniel’s former racehorse, Millstream Mahler (28). This seven-year-old Mahler mare had a poor record in point-to-points and on the track, but did get placed at BE100 level when campaigned in Britain last year by Susie Berry.

Gilchrist may have lost out on the win in the saddle, but, thanks to placing second, her name was entered into a draw for those who finished in the top six in each of the main classes and she won the prize of two hires of Danescroft Gallops.

Downpatrick’s Una McIlmail, who made her Eventing Ireland debut at Tyrella in April, made it third time lucky in the Equine-x EI80 here on Karen McCrissican’s Connemara gelding Lusmagh Anthem, whose total of 26.2 included 2.4 cross-country time penalties. Having finished one second over the time on the final leg, Gillian Neill slotted into second with the ISH gelding The Crafty Fox (29.4), ahead of Julie Coombs and Bruno Mars (30.8). Coombs and her seven-year-old bay gelding were the only combination, out of 25 starters, to complete on their first phase score.
