TOM Hayden had a disappointing result in the EI110 at Clyda on his Dublin working hunter winner Stillbrook Lizzie, but salvaged his Sunday trip to Co Cork when landing the 36-strong EI100 on his mother Mary’s Connemara mare Tullowcussane Peaches.

Making her debut at this level, the five-year-old Derryveeney Cruise grey completed on her dressage score (24.8 penalties), as did the second-placed Cameron Kiernan-ridden Kratos CAL M2S (25) and the Corey Jarman-partnered Shes D’Ellux RLE, who finished third (25.8).

The flatwork winner on 24.5, Garrybritt Rupert (Terence White), was the only one of the 34 who started the final phase not to complete.

The first five in the Mervue Equine EI90 all ended up on their dressage scores, led by Patrick Whelan on his own traditionally-bred Irish Sport Horse gelding Birchill Apache (25 penalties). This five-year-old, who came third on his only other start at Hillcrest (3) early last month, is by the Connemara stallion Kingstown Lieutenant.

Once they had picked up 20 jumping penalties on the final phase, Daniel Alderson took it easy on the flatwork winner on 22.5, the newcomer Gorsehill Layla.

There were only seven starters in the EI80, where the joint-leaders after dressage on 30.5 penalties, North Tipperary and Ormond Pony Club member Brooke Kenny and the five-year-old Connemara gelding Cupid’s Magic Shadow, struck on their second outing under EI rules, despite being two seconds over the time across the country.

Also on 30.5 after dressage, Avril Rea finished second on DSL The Explorer, who had a fence down show jumping.
