11.30 Irish Stallion Farms EBF Beginners Chase 2m 110y

A fascinating and informative opener, as Willie Mullins reintroduces a talented trio, led by Triumph Hurdle winner Majborough.

He has smart chasers in his pedigree, while last year’s Supreme Hurdle favourite Tullyhill has already proven himself over larger obstacles by winning his sole point-to-point start.

That win came on good ground, while stablemate Asian Master won his maiden hurdle on yielding, so the Supreme fourth and point winner should not be underestimated.

Theatre Native was unlucky on her sole point-to-point start, having been 24 lengths clear when falling at the final fence, and her chase debut can be upgraded following the winner’s subsequent Grade 2 win.

Ho My Lord showed promise over fences last season and should come on from last month’s stable debut, when his tendency to jump right suggested he may prefer a right-handed track.

Native Speaker has extra appeal as a course winner on good ground last time out, but the best chase form lies with his similarly race-fit rival Rainbow Trail.

Third, or last of three - however you want to describe it - in a Grade 3 last time out, he was still only beaten four and a half lengths by classy stablemates.

Both of the mares have chase wins to their credit, but today’s opposition looks tougher. Kinturk Kalanisi and Mint Boy should come on from their chase debuts, but are expected to find wanting all the same.

Could it be fourth time’s a charm for Slurricane, placed on all his previous starts over hurdles, or third time lucky for Beyond Your Dreams, runner-up on both attempts, including over course and distance?

The latter’s former stablemate My Mate Tony was a pleasant surprise on his first start for new connections, before being overfaced in a Grade 2 company, and this should be more within his reach.

Of those with flat form, Teofimo is of interest, based on his narrow defeat here over the summer. Otherwise, the market will prove informative for this largely inexperienced field.

Chortal, a son of Golden Horn, carries the colours of Supreme Novices’ winner Labaik, while the silks of Bouck’s Boum’s son Ballyearl are perhaps best associated with Royal Rendezvous.

It is difficult to know whether the step up in trip was key to Boston Rajj’s promising third on his handicap debut, when his pedigree suggests today’s distance would be more to his liking.

Stoneyford Lady, who finished fourth to Tullyhill on her racecourse debut 11 months ago, should come on from her seasonal return, following a significant absence, as should last month’s second Oakley.

Kp’s Ladyofknock produced a clear career-best, when winning her first start for Mark Fahey last week and, while she is open to further progression, her trainer’s comments on her attitude mean she may not be one to side with at a short price.

Her nearest rival that day, Mayos Vendangeur, has improved with every run, and should run another creditable race today.

Moylussa and Ragmans Corner may need to come back down the weights to get their heads in front.

Cheltenham Champion Bumper fifth Fishery Lane is of obvious appeal on his hurdle bow for the champion trainer. Stablemate Inn At The Park placed in a competitive Punchestown bumper and will hopefully prove more consistent over hurdles.

Masterboy Davis was second in that bumper, and filled the same position in a four-year-old maiden at Tattersalls, but was pulled up on his hurdle debut.

Point winner Melbourne Shamrock is expected to fare better today than he did in a bumper in May, while Mashala Habibi, runner-up in a four-year-old maiden in March, is an interesting recruit for connections.

Another step forward is expected from Committee Meeting, following a fine third on his second hurdle start. A late rally and point-to-point win suggest today’s trip will be to his liking.

Ayiko also produced a career-best last time out, but his jumping needs to improve for him to get his head in front.

Rebelle Chaud entered the notebook after finishing second last month, following a 219-day absence, and should go close today.

Kaikoura enters calculations after also finishing second last time out and, though he was beaten 12 lengths, he finished clear of the third and shaped like another step up in trip would suit.

An eight-pound hike for his course-and-distance win in February looked a little harsh on Jouster, though he comes here in good form, off the back of his maiden win over fences.

Others have shown the necessary ability in the past, but their inconsistency weakens confidence.

Of the more lightly raced contenders, Person Of Interest and St Anthonys Corner have yet to reproduce their earlier promise.

Classy chaser Stealthy Tom has never shown the same ability over hurdles.

Portarlington is on a roll, winning two of his three starts for his current yard, but the eight-pound rise he received for his course-and-distance win presents a bigger challenge.

The top two mares look to have strong chances - Slim Marvel beat a useful type when getting off the mark over hurdles, and can be forgiven for poor showings after a busy period and on her return from a break.

Miss Lia looked to have plenty in hand, when gaining her maiden victory in August, and appears to be off a fair mark.

The veteran Port Rashid returned to form on his last start, but this 13-year-old may need this run after a break.

Galileo Springs is the most experienced of these under rules and should be strongly considered, based on her first start in a bumper and with a tongue tie, when she finished second.

The third horse that day shares form with €320,000 point-to-pointer Swing Davis, who should strip fitter from her rules debut in a listed contest.

Blue Velvet is another expensive point graduate, costing €170,000 after falling on debut, when she was sent off favourite. Stablemate Future Prospect, who sold for £150,000 after winning her sole start between the flags, appears to be the leading hope on jockey bookings.

Dee’s Lady was a particularly expensive purchase for her trainer at €150,000 as a store. Based on pedigrees, Lisnacurra Star and Mags Collins appear the most promising of the remainder.
