Rutledge Training have just launched their new Equine Industry Apprenticeship across Northern Ireland, in collaboration with BHS (British Horse Society).

The apprenticeship is fully funded by the Department for the Economy for eligible learners. In order to be eligible learners must be working at least 21 hours a week in a horse yard based in Northern Ireland and be a minimum age of 16.

Incentive

The employer receives an incentive of £837 for each successful learner. There is the option to complete the course privately if learners cannot meet the criteria, this would be at a cost.

On successful completion the learner will have received their stage 2 or 3 (depending on which course they are completing) care and lunge exams from BHS. They will also have completed a first aid qualification along with an essential skill qualification in Maths, English and ICT if they do not already have one.

The Level 2 qualification is the foundation groom and the Level 3 Groom qualification.Training for the apprenticeship will take place one day per month at beautiful facilities in Armagh. The course tutor is BHS Performance Coach, Mark Robinson.

Rutledge Training plan on making lessons very practical and interactive as well as providing regular talks and demos from a range of professionals in the industry. Leading Irish event rider Jayne Doherty will be providing her knowledge on a regular basis, and will be there to provide her top tricks and to answer any questions as well as offering demos and talks. Jayne was an international eventer who competed to five star level and was also ranked top 20 in Olympic World Ranking on two separate Olympic years.
