GALWAY trainer Gerry Lynch passed away peacefully last Sunday at home in Craughwell following a long illness.

Experimental was his best horse, a winner of 10 races between 1998 and 2004. Michael Kinane and Charlie Swan were among the jockeys who won on Experimental and Neil Mulholland was on board the horse when he recorded a memorable double in 1999 and the Galway October meeting and the Cheltenham November fixture.

Mulholland said yesterday: “Gerry was a gentleman and very good to me. I was very grateful to ride a Cheltenham winner at that stage of my career. His brother Patsy was my agent at the time. We had some good days. Gerry was great fun to be around. He and his family were always very welcoming to me. He’ll be sadly missed.”

Gerry’s final winner was at Listowel in September 2019 and he did not renew his licence this year due to poor health. He is survived by his wife Bernie and their three children.
