The annual dispersal of Michael O’Leary’s Gigginstown House Stud proved extremely popular at the Goffs UK September Sales and provided the two highest prices of the day.

Topping the sale was the Grade 2 winning Bright New Dawn who was bought by Matt Coleman and Venetia Williams for £56,000 whilst the Grade 3-placed Cogryhill was bought by Adam Potts for £44,000.

Two more ex-Gigginstown owned Ravished and Altiepix made £29,000 and £28,000 respectively.

Also at the sale, the dual winning Imperial Prince was bought by Charlie Longsdon for £42,000 and the three-year-old Vincent’s Forever, who was consigned by John Gosden’s Clarehaven Stables, is set to go jumping after he was bought by Tom Malone on behalf of David Pipe for £40,000.Qatari buyers have been a strong influence at this sale in recent years and todays trade saw two horses bought by Hamad Al-Jaheni to race in the Arab state.

Papa Luigi was sold from Richard Hannon’s yard on behalf of Middleham Park Racing and was bought for £38,000 whilst Bachelorhood formed part of the Godolphin draft and was bought for £34,000.

Following the conclusion of the sale, Goffs Chief Executive Henry Beeby said:

“Comparing today with last year’s two day September Sale is probably not reasonable as we reintroduced the August Sale this year following requests from vendors and purchasers.

“The August Sale proved a huge success, boosted by the Potensis Dispersal, and any comparison needs to take account of our two large single days versus the single two day sale in 2015.

“So the £2,624,000 August turnover was today’s starting point meaning we have enjoyed year on year growth for the category.

“Today’s trade has followed recent trends with plenty of competition for the good ones from a diverse crowd of buyers from the likes of Qatar, Sweden, Greece, France, USA etc. and, of course, the UK and Ireland.”
