2:10 Golf Classics At Gowran Park Maiden Hurdle 2m

The return to maiden company should see Tranquil Sea get off the mark. Paul Nolan’s charge ran a belter in a handicap hurdle at Punchestown last month off a mark of 101 and may have won with a better jump at the last. That was probably his best effort yet and if he can step forward again, with Conor Stone Walsh taking 5lbs off, he should go close.

Angostura is unlikely to be far away. The Gordon Elliott-trained gelding was only beaten half a length by former Group 1 winner Helvic Dream on hurdles debut at Navan last month and a reproduction of that effort will see him involved.

2:45 Best Of Luck To The Irish At Cheltenham Mares Maiden Hurdle 2m

It’s no surprise to see the hood go on Jokers ‘N’ Clowns after she refused to race at Navan last weekend but she remains a mare of some potential. The daughter of Jet Away was well supported for her hurdles debut and trusting she consents to race here, she could be tough to beat. Previously she showed good battling qualities to win a Tattersalls Farm point-to-point in December and this may not be the strongest heat.

If able to get over her recent Clonmel mishap, then Pallas Athene may prove best of the rest. The Gigginstown-owned mare ran a nice race at Punchestown on her penultimate start where perhaps she may have been outstayed, so the switch back to two miles looks a good move.

Carlas Big Jim bolted up at Clonmel last time and a 7lb rise may not be enough to stop his progression. It took a while for the penny to drop for Louis Archdeacon’s six-year-old but his recent form stacks up well, with three consecutive seconds before his Clonmel score, and he’s likely to relish the testing conditions once again.

A good winner on his penultimate start, Dgalwaygallivantor looked to be coming with a promising run at Punchestown last time on his first try at this trip before making a mistake at the third last which all but ended his chances. He started regaining momentum in the closing stages to run on for third and he’s worth chancing again at this distance.

A tentative vote goes to Feu Du Bresil in a trappy affair. He looked promising when second to stablemate Mister Policeman on chasing debut in November and he has some solid hurdles form in the book, including when third in a competitive handicap at last season’s Punchestown’s festival.

His jumping will need to improve but these look calmer waters than the two recent beginners’ events he ran in which were won by Marine Nationale and Zanahiyr. Gavin Cromwell’s La Malmason won nicely at Cheltenham in December, but she’s failed to back that up in two runs since, so Tim Duggan winner Happy Dreams looks a safer alternative.

He saves his best form for fences and a return to two miles should suit after a modest run over hurdles last time.

Aime Desjy ran well over this course and distance behind the smart Saint Felicien last month and a replication of that effort should see him get off the mark. That run came after a 77-day break so he should be sharper now for this assignment. He is also Paul Townend’s only ride on the card, which looks as good a reason as any to make him the selection. The switch to fences seemed to spark a new lease of life into Duffle Coat and he should go well again. His jumping was solid on his first try over the larger obstacles at Punchestown when second to Senior Chief last month, and he won’t be far away if improving on that.

INHSC Supporting Point-To-Points Tetratema Cup Hunters Chase 3m 1f

Former Galway Plate winner Early Doors has run well in two recent points for David Christie and he can score on his first outing for Enda Bolger. He won in good style at Oldtown before finishing second at Kildorrery 13 days ago and that should leave him spot on for this. Christie holds a live chance himself with Ramillies and he’s second choice. He’s won four point-to-points since switching from Willie Mullins’ and this looks an easier assignment than his recent outing at Naas.

‘Doc’s Bumper’ INH Flat Race 2m

This is an intriguing contest which centres around two horses bought at the Cheltenham December Sale for similar lofty prices. The selection is £300,000 purchase Port Joulain, a Borris House point winner who makes his debut for Susannah Ricci and Willie Mullins, the latter having won this race last year with Tullyhill. Tumuch was snatched up for £335,000 at the same event after winning a Lingstown point by 12 lengths, and Gordon Elliott’s runner will likely be able to go close on his track debut.

SELECTION: PORT JOULAIN
