Runner-up at Killarney on both starts over hurdles to date, Game Phoenix can open her account. Despite being a lowly-rated maiden on the flat, the Paul Power-trained filly looks a totally different proposition over jumps. With the form of her most recent effort having been boosted by the fourth horse, she can get her head in front. A beaten favourite on his last two runs, the Noel Meade-trained Kaptain Bay should be capable of winning his juvenile hurdle. However, strictly on form, he has a bit to find with Game Phoenix.

SELECTION: GAME PHOENIX

Apple’s Of Bresil sets a fair standard on what he has shown on three starts over hurdles. The Barry Connell-trained six-year-old finished third on his hurdling debut at Leopardstown in December, before reverting to bumpers to win at Sligo next time. Following two promising efforts back over flights at Galway, the gelding can strike here. Wexford bumper runner-up Laravie has to be of interest on her first run over hurdles. Having stayed on well for minor honours last time, the Kevin O’Donnell-trained mare should appreciate this test.

Impressive Galway winner Talk In The Park might be open to further improvement on just his fifth run for trainer Ross O’Sullivan. The six-year-old, who travelled easily throughout that aforementioned race, is now 10lb higher, but has every chance of completing the hat-trick with Tom Harney taking off 7lb. Recent Ulster Cesarewitch winner Happy Jacky is a thorough stayer, who will appreciate every yard of this distance. Despite now being a 10-year-old, the Mark Fahey-trained gelding is at the top of his game.

The Willie Mullins-trained Saint Roi can win what is traditionally one of the first big National Hunt races of the season. A former leading hurdler, the nine-year-old has a fitness advantage over some of his rivals, having defied topweight to win a handicap chase at Galway in August. Well-treated at these weights, the J.P. McManus-owned gelding should be competitive. Dual course and distance winner, Saint Sam, gives Mullins a strong hand in this race. Having won his latest two starts over hurdles, the seven-year-old comes into this in great form.

Lightly raced over fences, Banjaxed can register a second career win for Lorna Fowler. The seven-year-old, who won his maiden hurdle at Perth last year, subsequently ran well in a big field at Fairyhouse off 120. From a similar mark over fences, the Blue Bresil gelding should have leading claims in what is quite an open affair. Kilashee, who returned to form when winning at Roscommon last month, has to hold every chance off her low weight. A credit to connections, the nine-year-old seldom runs a bad race.

Mossy Fen Park can make an immediate impact on his first start over fences. The Henry De Bromhead-trained gelding, who won his point-to-point in Nenagh last February, was last seen when runner-up in a Grade 2 Novice Hurdle at Fairyhouse. Provided he is fit enough on his first start in 188 days, the lightly raced five-year-old should give a good account. Encanto Bruno has something to prove now, having failed to fire on his last three starts. However, if able to reproduce his earlier form, the John McConnell-trained gelding would be a definite contender in this company.

Kate Ill Know catches the eye from a lowly rating of 78 over fences. A winner over hurdles at Wexford in August, the Ken Budds-trained mare has reached the frame on two subsequent starts. Having shaped with promise in mid division on two previous runs over fences, the veteran has to be well-treated from a mark 12lb below her hurdle rating. Downpatrick runner-up Finnians Row should again be involved. The Dermot McLoughlin-trained eight-year-old kept on well to take minor honours on that occasion.
