BOARDSMILL Stud have announced the acquisition of Frankel’s dual group-winning son Arrest, who was also twice Group 1-placed for John and Thady Gosden and Juddmonte Farms.
The Swordlestown Little-bred bay emerged as an exciting prospect when winning a Sandown maiden in August of his juvenile career, the race previously won by the likes of Too Darn Hot and Westover.
An impressive winner next time out, he ended the season with a narrow defeat in the Group 1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud.
He returned better than ever as a three-year-old, bolting up in the Group 3 Chester Vase, of which previous winners include top National Hunt stallions Old Vic and Soldier Of Fortune.
The performance saw him sent off favourite in the Epsom Derby won by Auguste Rodin, but disappointed after becoming unbalanced and was later found to have lost a shoe. He bounced back to land the Group 3 Geoffrey Freer Stakes, before claiming runner-up honours in the Doncaster St Leger.
Upon announcing their new recruit, Boardsmill Stud’s John Flood said: “We are delighted to have acquired Arrest from Juddmonte Farms, a farm we have had success buying from in the past.
“He was a high-class racehorse and is a gorgeous looking individual, standing 16.2hh with a wonderfully athletic walk.
“His good looks are borne out by the fact that he was purchased as a foal by Juddmonte for €440,000.
“His pedigree contains a nice blend of speed and stamina on both his sire and dam’s side. He is a son of the champion Frankel and his dam, who has produced three stakes performers to date, descends from the highly influential Roberto and Top Ville lines.
“Most importantly, Arrest has retired fully sound of wind and limb and we look forward to showing him to breeders when he arrives to Boardsmill.”
Inspiring confidence in the latest addition to the National Hunt stallion ranks is the fact that Juddmonte Farms have retained some breeding rights in him. As alluded to by Flood, the County Meath farm have previously enjoyed success purchasing from Juddmonte.
The unraced Court Cave, a full-brother to multiple Group 1 winner Beat Hollow, went on to sire Grade 1 winners City Island and Willoughby Court, along with a host of Grade 2 winners.
He stood his final season in 2024, Arrest now joining the well-bred Group 2 winner Sumbal, who covered over 100 mares each season from 2021 to 2023, and exciting young sire Poet’s Word, whose three-year-olds sold for up to €120,000 this year.
A fee for Arrest will be announced at a later date.
