Rugs, numnahs and bandages can absorb just about anything - from bacteria and dirt to sweat and urine - if they are not regularly cleaned and disinfected, and your horse may suffer from skin conditions as a result. Ingrained manure and urine also rots the material so the rugs tear more easily.
