Sunday August 14th

DOOLOUGH Beach in Geesala, Co. Mayo followed the trend set by Dingle a week earlier as a large attendance enjoyed tropical like conditions.

It was a day to remember for 16-year-old Monasterevin rider Conor Whitely who recorded his first ever winner in the finale on Pack Your Bags who dead-heated with the Adam Grant-ridden, fast-finishing Caramore.

Pack Your Bags is owned by Aidan and Antoinette Gallagher who work tirelessly for Horse and Pony Racing and trained by their son Aidan Og, while Caramore is owned and trained by the Finnerty family whose Roscommon yard came right back to form with Caramore completing a treble for them on the day.

Adam Grant, who had just returned from his scholarship at the British Racing College, also rode Mr James for the Finnerty’s as the veteran rolled back the years to win the 12-furlong contest in style from the Kian McNally-ridden Bipolar Blondie.

Earlier, Maverick, who was agonisingly beaten in the final stride at Dingle, managed to reverse the form with Heartbreak Hill to come out on top of the 10-furlong contest in the able hands of Jack de Bromhead.

Successful day

It was yet another highly successful day at the office for the Flannery/Hanlon combination as they landed the featured two-mile contest with Right On Time.

Just a week after his famous Dingle Derby triumph, Paddy Hanlon again showed the utmost confidence leading down the straight for a cosy three-length victory from another Dingle winner Chloe’s Sam.

Kian McNally maintained his rich vein of form courtesy of a double on Where It Began and Honest Bernie.

The former had shown signs of a revival in recent weeks and made practically all the running to win the 12.2hh race in convincing style. Honest Bernie, winner of the Golden Mile in Dingle warmed up for the trip to Glenbeigh when completing Kian’s double in the Mile event. It was another win for Ian and Hanna Worrell who are enjoying a stellar campaign.

Dylan O’Connor made the long trip from North Cork worthwhile when Silent Star proved too strong for solitary rival St James to take the 15hh race.
