Rioga Choice

(H. de Bromhead)

After bolting up in a maiden hurdle at Roscommon in early August this mare took a sharp rise in class when contesting the Grade 3 won by her stablemate Magical Zoe.

Significant interference at a vital stage prevented her from reaching the frame but she still acquitted herself well and showed that she can be a force in similar contests in the coming months.

2 Down Royal, November 5th

New Year Honours

(G. Elliott)

This daughter of Nathaniel made a bright start to her jumping career when finishing second to Cougar in a three-year-old hurdle.

The winner looked to have plenty in hand at the finish but this filly shaped up nicely against a decent rival with previous jumping experience and she could prove to an above-average performer in the juvenile hurdle division.

Hands Of Gold

(A.L.T. Moore)

This son of Shantou made a heartening start to his career on the track when beaten just over 10 lengths into fourth in the maiden hurdle won by Invictus Machin.

He appeals as being able to progress substantially off this run and a first success shouldn’t be long in coming his way.

4 Cork, November 6th

Mister Fogpatches

(P.A. Fahy)

A regular in good staying handicaps, he made an encouraging start to his season with a fourth in the Cork National earlier in the month.

He didn’t help his cause with a significant mistake at the first fence and, under the circumstances, he ran very well. There is a good handicap to be won with him this season.

5 Dundalk, November 9th

Not Too Real Bad

(T. Mullins)

After showing ability in maidens this filly made an encouraging start to her handicapping career when narrowly denied by El Tesoro over six furlongs at Dundalk last week.

She won’t have to wait long to make her mark in a similar event.

6 Naas, November 12th

Kansas City Star

(G. Elliott)

His debut fourth in a bumper last February was encouraging and his comeback second in a maiden hurdle last weekend reaffirmed that initial promise.

He was beaten a length and a quarter by the high-class mare Ashroe Diamond and showed enough to suggest he could make up into quite a decent novice hurdler in the coming months.

7 Navan, November 13th

Firefox

(G. Elliott)

A son of Walk In The Park and a half-brother to the classy The Bosses Oscar, this four-year-old shaped with considerable promise to finish fourth to Spirit Of Legend in a maiden hurdle on Sunday.

He was never able to mount a telling challenge but was only beaten four lengths into fourth and is likely to take beating wherever he turns out next.

8 Navan, November 13th

Get My Drift

(M. Morris)

This 133-rated hurdler made an encouraging start to his chasing career when third to the impressive Hollow Games.

This effort bodes well for his prospects over the larger obstacles and he will be a horse of considerable interest for the months ahead.

9 Fairyhouse, November 15th

Tenzing

(W.P. Mullins)

On his first start since winning a maiden hurdle at Cork at Easter, he was handed his chasing debut in a warm-looking contest that was won by Gerri Colombe and posted a career best effort to be beaten just three lengths into third.

He might well have found his true calling as a chaser and looks an interesting stayer for the rest of the campaign.

10 Dundalk, November 16th

Collective Power

(E. Lynam)

It was his first run since July when finishing second to Dandyville in a six-furlong handicap.

The winner had something to spare at the finish but this gelding kept on well to secure second and gave the impression he could take plenty of beating next time as a result of this comeback effort.
