ENGLISH trainer Ian Williams is due to have two runners at Laytown on Monday.

The annual beach fixture starts at 4.35pm and the last of six races is due off at 7.05pm.

Williams, who trains in the West Midlands, runs Mokaatil in a six-furlong handicap (5.05) and the nine-year-old is morning favourite. Stable companion Ivasecret is first reserve in the seven-furlong claimer and has gained a starting berth following the withdrawal of another declared runner.

Racetrack manager Jessica Cahalan reports that a party of 45 farmers will be in attendance on their way to the National Ploughing Championships the following day in Co Laois. The Galway Races members’ club are also having a day out at Laytown.

Off-track entertainment will include live music, face painting, hair braiding and, of course, plenty of sand for the children.

Although there is ample parking nearby, racegoers are advised to use public transport where possible. Gates open at 2.30pm.
