HARRY Allen was a five-star winner last Friday, when he claimed the second Longines Global Champions League competition of the day in Paris, having claimed fourth earlier in the evening.

The Wexford pilot rode Calculatus in the initial 1.55m speed class and the pair performed very well in what was a very tight contest, only falling short of victory, which went to Fernando Marinez Sommer (MEX) on Lady van de Haarterhoeve, by less than four-tenths of a second.

He left nothing to chance in the 1.60m class against the clock, however, recording the triumphant round despite being 16th of the 45 combinations into the arena on Lukaku vd Bisschop.

The pair flew around the course, while retaining absolute accuracy and were clear in a time of 61.48 seconds. The wait must have been agonising, but while there were 15 faultless runs in total, nobody could threaten the Irish combination on the speed front.

To round off a perfect day by the Seine for the boys in green, Kilkenny-based Kildare native Mikey Pender contributed to the team victory of the Doha Falcons. Pender went around in the second competition with five faults on the Irish Sport Horse HHS Calais, a 2011 gelding by Cavalier Royale out of MHS OBOS Cruise (OBOS Quality).

HHS Calais was bred by Ita Brennan, in Co Kilkenny and is owned by Bravo Hughes Ltd.
