BERTRAM Allen’s great run of form at the four-star Sweden International Horse Show in Stockholm continued last weekend when he won Saturday’s 1.45m Table A aboard Empoli de Champloue.

Allen guided the eight-year-old Arko-sired gelding to the fastest of 10 clear rounds in the class, completing the course in 58.96 seconds to win just over €9,000. The pair were just fractions of a second faster than runner-up Marlon Zanotelli with Heureuse Nouvelle WH (0/ 59.01).

Allen was runner-up in Thursday’s 1.45m two-phase class aboard Emmylou. The 10-year-old mare was clear in 30.95, one of 10 double clears, just beaten by Sweden’s Henrik von Eckermann with Hollywood V (0/0 28.94).

It was the perfect ending for the sponsors of the H&M Sweden Grand Prix when the podium was dominated by H&M-sponsored riders, topped by Peder Fredricson who was the fastest of four clears with H&M Christian K.

The Philippaerts twins of Olivier (H&M Miro) and Nicola (H&M Luna Van’T Ruytershof Z) finished second and third. Allen faulted once in the first round to place ninth.

Top 10 final

Germany’s Olympic champions Jessica von Bredow-Werndl and TSF Dalera BB had a very successful weekend at Sweden International Horse Show, winning both the opening Grand Prix and the Grand Prix Freestyle-final of Lövsta Top 10 Dressage.

The German superstar secured the victory ahead of German peer Isabell Werth and Sweden’s Patrik Kittel.

On Sunday, the pair showed the Swedish audience a new freestyle to the tunes of Édith Piaf which earned them a score of 88.760% despite a few glitches. “The beginning was super- strong and I felt super confident. Then we picked up the wrong canter so I was a bit confused and this I haven’t felt in a long time so that made me do two more small mistakes,” von Bredow-Werndl explained at the press conference.

“This was a good reminder that you have to be 100% connected… It was good for me to have a bit of a wake-up call!”

Her compatriot, German legend Isabell Werth, was thrilled with second-placed DSP Quantaz who helped her to 85.360% percent.

She commented: “I honestly never had a feeling like this, my horse felt super.” Patrik Kittel kept the home crowd happy in third place with Touchdown on a score of 83.660%.

ISH wins eventing final

The 18-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding Boleybawn Prince was the first ever winner of the Agria Top 10 Indoor Eventing competition at the venue last Sunday under Frenchman Maxime Livio.

Last to go, the pair won by just one hundredth of a second, ahead of Sweden’s Frida Andersén and Box Compris. Germany’s Olympic champion Julia Krajewski finished third with Nickel 21.

Boleybawn Prince is traditionally bred by Colin Diamond out of Ann Brook Lass (Clover Hill), bred by Brian McDonnell. He appeared at the Tokyo Olympic Games under Thailand’s Arinadtha Chavatanont.

“I think this was a good demonstration of what cross-country is, with trouble for some and really nice rounds for others and the finish really close,” Livio said afterwards, adding: “You have to ride him (Boleybawn Prince) well because he is so talented, so if you make a mistake you can really blame yourself. So I was really focused today on doing my best.”
