TERRANOVA Equestrian Centre in Florida, USA, hosted the Split Rock Sarasota CSI2* show last week, where Limerick’s Paul O’Shea claimed the red ribbon in last Thursday’s $35,000 1.45m FEI Welcome class.

O’Shea, who has been having a great run of form lately, steered the 13-year-old gelding Squirt Gun to jump double clear and stop the jump-off clock in 35.87 seconds, more than two seconds faster than American runner-up, Kelli Cruciotti Vanderveen on Mochito V/D Mishagen, who finished in 38.26 seconds.

The show got underway last Wednesday and, in the $2,500 1.35m Speed class, Ireland’s Cameron Hanley on Maestro van het Binnenveld placed third, with Richie Moloney on Daisycutter in fifth; Moloney followed this up with a 10th place in the $10,000 1.40m FEI Speed class riding Sherlock 46. Kilkenny’s Michael Hutchinson rode Labaomi W into second place in Friday’s $500 1.30m Power/Speed class.

Saturday’s $100,000 1.45m FEI Grand Prix saw Richie Moloney and Rocksy Music claim third place, in a class where just five of the 38 starters jumped clear in the first round to make it into the jump -off. Moloney kept all the fences standing again in the jump-off to finish in a time of 46.99 seconds, a mere 0.13 seconds behind the winner, Australia’s Rowan Willis on Wellington Grey Goose, who stopped the clock in 46.86 seconds.

In the $100,000 1.35m championship, Michael Hutchinson and Labaomi W placed third with a double clear round and a jump-off time of 52.43 seconds.

There was no catching the winner, USA’s Rebecca Conway on Jersey Girl, who jumped clear in 44.57 seconds.
