IRISH show jumpers had a good outing at Hubside Jumping in St Tropez, France, last weekend. Cian O’Connor scored a three-star win in Saturday’s 1.50m aboard Ronnoco Jump Ltd’s 10-year-old grey stallion Checkter.

O’Connor earned €1,000 when best of eight clear rounds in the a time of 60.17 seconds, seeing off Belgium’s Emilie Conter and Ocean Quality in second place (0/ 61.86). The 10-year-old grey joined O’Connor’s string in February, formerly ridden by Germany’s Leonie Böckmann, and they scored good results in Florida at the beginning of the year.

O’Connor finished third on the same day in the 1.45m Longines ranking class aboard Nicole Walker’s nine-year-old mare Eve d’Ouilly. They were one of 11 clears in 38.99 seconds. Trevor Breen was one place ahead of O’Connor with Mandy Hall’s Germaine W when clear against the clock in 38.74, just behind German winner Nicola Pohl with Arlo de Blondel (0/0 38.49), a horse formerly ridden by Ireland’s Richard Howley. Max Wachman placed ninth with Quintini with a clear in 41.44.

Grand Prix

Breen finished on the podium in Sunday’s three-star 1.55m Grand Prix with the 11-year-old gelding Highland President, who is home-bred and owned by his mother-in-law Heather Black. The pair were among seven clears in the first round and, against the clock, five produced a second clean sheet. Breen’s time of 38.62 seconds earned him third place and €9,000.

Victory in the feature class went to Brazilian Olympian Pedro Veniss with Boeckmanns Lord Pezi Junior (0/0 37.15), ahead of The Netherlands’ Kim Emmen in second place with Delvauz (0/0 37.78).
