GALWAY’S Sven Hadley travelled to England last weekend to compete in the two-star show at Chard Equestrian in Somerset, and scored a total of eight top three finishes.

Among them was victory in Friday’s 1.30m Table A jump-off class riding Louise Carroll’s 12-year-old gelding Fabuleu vd Watertoren. The pair were the best of just six double clears in 35.13 seconds. He also slotted into fourth place with the Padraig Howley-bred Uidam (Luidam x Cavalier Royale) in 36.67 seconds.

Tipperary’s Shane Breen claimed second place in the two-star Grand Prix at the venue. Riding the 11-year-old mare Haya, owned by Breen Equestrian and Old Lodge Stud, he was one of just five double clears in a time of 35.76 seconds to earn €5,674.

He was beaten was British Olympian Scott Brash riding the nine-year-old mare Hello Vittoria in 35.06. Brash also slotted into third place with Folie de Nantuel. The Irish Sport Horse Creevagh Carisma (Camiro de Haar Z), bred by the late Ronnie Hollinger, slotted into sixth place under Annabel Shields.
