Darragh Kenny runner-up in CSI3* Grand Prix
DARRAGH Kenny earned a satisfying €10,000 when runner-up in the three-star Grand Prix in Opglabeek, Belgium, last weekend.
Riding Vlock Show Stables’ 11-year-old stallion Chic Chic, Kenny was one of five clear rounds in the seven-horse jump-off in 34.70 seconds. His time was only bettered by the five-star winning German event rider Michael Jung with Edo Sandra in 33.91 seconds.
Lennon placed
Dermott Lennon was in action at the venue and he scored a runner-up place in Sunday’s 1.40m two-phase aboard the Irish-bred All Pleasure Hero II. Bred by the Horse Invest Ltd HPBNL, the eight-year-old mare is by Aganix du Seigneur Z out of Calgot Pleasure (For Pleasure) who herself is a daughter of the former world champion Lisacalgot, who was also ridden by Lennon.
He was fourth in Friday’s 1.50m jump-off with the Gerry Marron and Luc Henry-bred L’Esprit Hero Z (Lexicon x For Pleasure). The pair were double clear in 35.41 seconds. Victory went to Frenchman Bilal Zaryouh with Usual Suspect d’Auge (0/0 32.30).
Two-star win for Matt Garrigan
DUBLIN show jumper Matt Garrigan won a two-star 1.45m jump-off class in Peelbergen, The Netherlands, last Sunday. Garrigan rode the 12-year-old gelding Click N’Chic HDC to victory when the fastest of 12 clear rounds in the hugely competitive jump-off, clear in 41.70 second to earn €1,250. Switzerland’s Niklaus Rutschi finished second with Oxana vd Bisschop.
Denis Lynch finished third in the two-star Grand Prix at the venue. Riding the 17-year-old stallion Rubens LS La Silla, who recently won the five-star La Baule Derby, he was one of just five clears against the clock, breaking the beam in 36.57 seconds. Victory went to Germany’s Nisse Luneburg with Nebraska van ‘t Vianahof (0/0 35.58).
Howley placed in Grand Prix
RICHARD Howley finished fourth in the two-star Grand Prix of Wellington, Britain. Fresh from a trip to Balmoral, he guided the Jacky Lee-bred Irish Sport Horse gelding Hollypark Pacino (Pacino x Lux Z) to a four fault round against the clock to finish fourth and earn €2,835. Victory went to Britain’s Adrian Speight with Millfield Baloney, while the Irish Sport Horse Kingsborough Kasper (Kannan x Revenge W), bred by Cliodhna Carrol, was runner-up with Louise Saywell.
