FRESH from his success at the World Cup show in Madrid less than a week prior, Mikey Pender continued his winning streak at La Coruna at the weekend.

The Kildare rider was straight off the mark, with a win in the first five-star class of the weekend, the Helvetia Group Caser Trophy 1.45m speed class on Friday evening. From a start list of 57, 24 combinations jumped clear within the time allowed.

Pender and the 11-year-old gelding HHS Vancouver (ISH), bred by Marion Hughes, jumped an immaculate clear round in a speedy time of 58.82 seconds, which was good enough to secure the €9,306 first prize.

Their closest rivals, Spanish rider Jesus Garmendia Echevarria on Value 2, finished over a second and a half behind (60.44) to secure the runner-up spot, while Switzerland’s Edouard Schmitz rode Abdul-Jabbar of Gibet to claim the third podium position in 60.54.

The five-star World Cup show held at the Casas Novas Equestrian Center at La Coruna, Spain, ran from Friday, December 6th until Sunday, December 8th.
