KILKENNY’s Jack Ryan finished runner-up in the Under 25 Land Rover Grand Prix at the five-star CHI Geneva in Switzerland last weekend.
The 20-year-old guided his mother Marguerite Ryan’s home-bred Irish Sport Horse BBS McGregor (VDL Cardento x Mark Twail xx) to one of just three clears in the nine-horse jump-off. Their time of 42.85 seconds was just over a second slower than Spanish winner Álvaro González de Zarate Fernandez with Care de Blue PS (0/0 41.79).
Ryan, who is based at Shane Breen’s Hickstead, has been training with British Olympian Scott Brash through the Young Riders Academy. He thanked Scott for his help and said the experience in Geneva was “amazing” and the perfect way to end the year which included a team silver medal at the young rider Europeans and a winning senior Nations Cup debut.
