GRENNAN Equestrian Centre works in partnership with Ormonde College as part of its expansion as a centre of excellence for further education in Kilkenny. The college runs a nine-month course, (September to June) in preparation for the British Horse Society Stages 1, 2, 3, and Preliminary Teaching Test and QQI Level 5 Award in Horsemanship and may then progress onto QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Horsemanship.

The course is a practical and academic one for those seeking careers in the equine industry. It is designed and run in accordance with international standards in order to attain the best equine and teaching practice. The course specialises in equipping its students for a successful career in the equine industry, and continues to develop to meet the particular needs of the industry.

The course content includes:

Sport Horse Riding (Equitation), Stable and Yard routine (Horse Knowledge and Care)

Equine Nutrition, Equine Anatomy and Physiology, Veterinary Care, Coaching skills,

Young Horse Training techniques, Communications, Work Experience, Business Administration.

Students gain work experience by taking part in the practical care of horses and yard duties every second week to include two Saturdays and one Sunday a month.

Students are recommended to have Leaving Certificate or equivalent but this is not compulsory, however some equestrian experience is essential.
