BRIDGETOWN College hosted the second last TRI Equestrian Interschools before the final last Sunday in Wexford equestrian. This was a well-supported event with a lot of the teams and individuals chasing points towards their score to be brought forward to the decider taking place in Coilóg on March 24th. Last chance to gain points will be at Mullingar this weekend where the Fagan family host the penultimate event.

Proceedings commenced with the primary teams where the team from St Leonards NS Rusty and Fiadh Lyons, Apples ridden by Eleana O’Grady, Lily ridden by Maisey Murphy and Bubbles and Isabelle Stafford ran out winners ahead of the Kilmore NS team of White Nova ridden by Ellen Fortune, Elsa and Rosie Scallan, Sonic and Izzy Bates and Mouse ridden by Saoirse Cousins in second, and Rathangan NS’s Gold Monkey and Annie Stafford) Sadbh Whelan riding Charlie Bear, Michael Sinnott on Tommy and Bonnie ridden by Mia Moran in third.

The 55cm class followed and Mary Kate Kelly riding Molly for St Leonard’s, posted a lovely round to claim the prize ahead of fellow pupil Maisie Murphy on Lily in second and Blackwater NS representative Lily Kelly on Sparkles in third.

The EII primary 75cm class had entries from a lot of contenders in the league. Belle Aime ridden by Niamh Colfer for St Oliver’s Blackwater gained 10 points when she posted a great time to beat Ruby Cousins on Bluebell for local school Kilmore into second place. Third place and six points went to Interstella ridden by Caitlin Griffith from Screen NS. The remaining points were awarded to Molly Bates Doyle, Ciara Sarsfield and Oliver Walsh.

Novice teams

The EII novice teams league produced a win for local school Loreto Wexford. Loreto’s team was Brown Bells Nugget and Isabel Walsh, Wex Gal ridden by Amy Griffith, Essener Double Dutch ridden by Anna Radford and Wynda Toby and Aoife Griffith. St Gerards School, represented by Arraghbeg Honey and Nina Boydell, Harvey and Lily Maloney, Ella Bella ridden by Honor Mullion and Carnakilly Riley ridden by Victoria Roche, was second and St Mary’s New Ross team consisting of Queenie’s Cornet and Mia Kent, Coolafinka Quinn ridden by Laura Neville, Oliver and Aoife Cummins and Milchem Havana and Eva Kent was third. Remaining EII novice team league points went to Good Counsel, Scoil Mhuire Thurles and Presentation Wexford.

The TRI Equestrian Open teams winner was St Peter's College Wexford comprising Cojorojo (Jack Jones), Robin May (Joe Codd), Glenbawn Lass ( Dylan Barrett) and Kilkea Charlie (Tommy Codd)

Equieire qualifier

The Equieire 90cm novice qualifier produced a win for Conor Cusack from St Declan’s riding Crafty Tim Hunt. Second place went to Greenfield Lorenza ridden by Bridgetown’s Aoife Murphy and in third Amy Griffith from Loreto. She was riding Wex Gal.

The fun 80cm class open to novice secondary and primary pupils was won by Kate Jones on Mulla Duff for Loreto Wexford Belle Aime and Niamh Colfer for St Oliver’s was second and Georgina Delaney from Coláiste Abbáin on Little Brum was third.

The main action of the day followed with the TRI Equestrian Open teams’ class. This time the red ribbons and ten points went to St Peter’s College Wexford, represented by Cojorojo and Jack Jones, Robin May ridden by Joe Codd, Glenbawn Lass and Dylan Barrett and Kilkea Charlie ridden by Tommy Codd. St Mary’s New Ross team of Martha Power on Cash Advance, Smooth Passin Sarco and Ciara Sinnott, Katie Costello riding Tomello and Junipierre and Ava Donovan were runners-up, with Presentation Wexford (Sia and Eva Mulligan, Cody ridden by Mia Meyler, Sally Grey and Maggie Willett and Chloe’s Fantasy and Ruby Reville) in third. Final league points went to Kilkenny College Mercy Ballymahon and Loreto Wexford.

TRI Equestrian open individual

Lucy McCarthy riding Gorm for Newbridge College won the TRI Equestrian open individual league class ahead of Ellen O’Neill on Gateau Mr Blue also representing Newbridge in second, and Bridgetown’s Silver Dip and Casey Shiels in third. Johnnie Mulligan, Keira Crowther and Eva Mulligan were fourth, fifth and sixth.

Final class of the day was the TRI Equestrian 110 qualifier and this was claimed by the in-form Katie Duignan riding A Boy Duggie for Mercy Ballymahon. Presentation Kilkenny’s Isabelle O’Callaghan on Alexa was second by a slim margin with Mercy’s Calum Duignan on Illane Dante in third. St Mary’s New Ross rider Ciara Sinnott on Smooth Passion Sarco, Johnnie Shepard from Carnew on Galtee Shadow and Lilly Trotter ridden by Kayla Ryan for Borris took fourth fifth and sixth.

As stated previously the final opportunity to gain points is in Mullingar Equestrian this weekend.
