MULLINGAR Equestrian ran a busy day of show jumping, hosting the TRI Equestrian Interschools league last weekend (October 13th). The full range of EII classes were on offer, as well as local unregistered jumping, aimed at potential stars of the future, which ranged in height from 50cm to 70cm.

The Primary teams class started proceedings in the Aloga International Arena. The mixed team from St Colmcille’s and St Joseph’s national schools, Ella MacManus riding Gowlan Calendar Girl, Picketspride Country Squire ridden by Alex Vambeck, Zoe Vambeck on Aztec Dakota and Noah O’Brien on Clare’s Glens Lady were first in this class, ahead of teams from Scoil Samhain and Bunlahy NS, Scoil Mhuire Newtownforbes and Longford mixed NS.

The EII primary Individual league class followed and Alex Vambeck, again riding Picketspride Country Squire for Gainstown took the top spot, with Lauren McGrath on Magnificent Maddy for Scoil Mhuire Newtownforbes in second and Gainstown’s Zoe Vambeck on Aztec Dakota in third.

This was followed by the TRI Equestrian Open Teams, in which Moate CS claimed the 12 league points and the red rosettes, ahead of Newbridge College in second and Mercy Ballymahon in third. Ballypierce Luna ridden by James Cleary, Rockie and Ally Duffy, Fireball and Josh Duffy and Killenisk ridden by Aine Shortall made up the Moate team, while Isabelle Walsh and Ardenhue Red, Gorm and Lucy McCarthy, Eva O’Neill on Mascaleroz and Ellen O’Neill on Hope Joanna represented Newbridge. The Mercy Ballymahon team was Wyndham Miss Ellie and Ella Duignan, Grace Egan riding Jasper, Maria Forde and Believe in Miracles and Calum Duignan on Buddy. Remaining league points were gained by St Joseph’s Rochfortbridge and Ursuline Thurles, whilst the second Ballymahon team took fifth place.

The Equieire novice 90 qualifier followed. Lucy O’Rourke riding Killglass Jimmy for Killina Presentation qualified in first place, with Sadie Horton riding Gower Hass Boy for Wesley in second and Kitty Moran on RMA Silver Dollar from Holy Child Killiney in third. Remaining qualifier spots were awarded to Layla Blessington, Isabella Goode and Lucy Healy. The TRI Open Individual class was hotly contested and victory went to Nicole Brennan riding Cavern Hill Annie for St Joseph’s Rochfortbridge, ahead of Mercy Ballymahon’s Calum Duignan riding April Shadow in second and Evita Thomsen riding Acapulco from local school, St Finian’s in third. Ryan O’Neill, Emili Smith and Aibidh Condren were fourth, fifth and sixth.

Premier

The final class in this arena was the TRI Equestrian Premier 110 class. Calum Duignan on Ilane Dante from Ballymahon, sibling Ella Duignan on Wyndham Miss Ellie, Nicole Brennan from St Joseph’s Rochfortbridge this time riding Tullamore Silver, Ailbhe Kelly on Lord of the Field for Ashfield College, Mercy Kilbeggan’s Emily O’Neill on Quick Quintender and Orlagh O’Brien riding Ardagh Dun and Dusted for Loreto Mullingar qualified when being placed first to sixth.

The Plusvital sand 2 arena played host to the Hopoti Novice teams league. The team from Tullow CS, Una Farrell and Khaleesi storm, Lily Mulhall on Sam, Muireann Tooher on Slieve Rushen Don and Cillian Tobin riding Hershey’s Kiss, were victorious, with the St Gerard’s Bray team consisting of Ardeo Dime and Molly Britton, Ballyea Star and Kate Buckley, Lily Maloney riding Harvey Ventura, Cloonan Hannah and Charlotte Dodd in second and Scoil Mhuire Trim in third. Scoil Mhuire was represented by Bridget Corcoran, Grace Rennick, Kate Prendergast and Chloe Brewer riding Sizzling Sisco, Luane’s Mist, Glandoran Girl and Red Flick respectively. Loreto Mullingar, Newbridge College, Convent of Mercy, Roscommon and Mercy Ballymahon took fourth, fifth and joint sixth.

The Hopoti Novice Individual class followed. First place went to Kitty Moran of Holy Child Killiney riding RMA Silver Dollar, ahead of Theo Zumerchik on Queen Maizie for Wilson’s Hospital in second and Mosstown Hopper and Amy Keenan from Mercy Ballymahon in third. The local individual classes followed. Lucy Healion on Tyrrellspass Magic for Scoil Chroiste Ri, Portlaoise and Elsa Hunt on Irishtown Toby for Our Lady’s Bower won the 60cm and 70cm competitions respectively, whilst the 50cm and 40cm classes were divided.

Action this weekend is in Barnadown on Sunday where Colaiste Bhride, Carnew are the hosts.
