JIM Culloty has decided not to renew his trainer’s licence. A Kerryman based in Churchtown, Co Cork, the 44-year-old is best known as the trainer of Lord Windermere, winner of the 2014 Cheltenham Gold Cup.

He took out his trainer’s licence in 2006, shortly after his retirement as a professional jockey.

As a rider, he achieved a Gold Cup hat-trick on Best Mate and he also rode Bindaree to win the Grand National at Aintree.

Culloty built a very impressive training facility in Churchtown and his main patron was Dr Ronan Lambe. Lord Windermere gave Dr Lambe his first Cheltenham Festival success when landing the 2013 RSA Chase.

Despite proving his ability to train horses at the highest level, Culloty found winners hard to come by, though he did have regular success on the point-to-point circuit.

He never had more than eight winners in an Irish jumps season and had just one success last term, Crown Of Gold at Limerick in October. His most recent runner was at Clonmel last month.

He had two horses in training for Dr Lambe up to recently and they have been transferred to Robbie McNamara.
