1.25 Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden 7f

Joe Murphy had a nice juvenile winner during the week at Gowran Park and he might have another one here with Pink Sorrel. She defied odds of 50/1 on her debut at Punchestown to run a big race in finishing third to Basil Martini. That winner has won a Group 3 since and the runner-up was second at the same level. The fourth horse, Lan Cinnte, went close to winning a maiden on her next start, so the form is really strong. The daughter of Zoffany also has a plum draw in stall one.

High Chieftess didn’t fare as well on that front, drawn in 12, but it will be no surprise if she can improve sufficiently from her debut effort to play a role in the finish. A Galileo filly out of the smart Tiggy Wiggy, she was beaten further than the selection on her debut, but that was also a hot race and you can expect plenty of improvement now.

SELECTION: PINK SORREL

This doesn’t look like a strong renewal and it might be worth considering some of the newcomers. Sloane Ranger, a War Front colt for Aidan O’Brien, catches the eye with Colin Keane booked, but Stop And Think makes a little more appeal. He is son of Dandy Man making his debut for Joseph O’Brien. His full brother, the very useful Lord Of The Lodge, often went well fresh and indeed won on his career debut, so maybe he can follow suit.

Of those to have run, Livio Milo has the best piece of form, having finished fifth to Continuous (has won a Group 3 since) at the Curragh. He boxed on well that day and should be able to do better now.

SELECTION: STOP AND THINK

Devore was ice cold in the market for her last run but she defied that lack of confidence with a hard-fought win. That race has worked out well since with the runner-up winning next time out. Devore went up 6lbs which was fair at the time but looks lenient now. She is having her fourth start and can improve again.

Shangrilama produced her best performance on her fourth and latest start at Thurles and looks a player again, but if there is one filly with pattern race potential in this line-up, it has to be Delightful. The latest out of a superb Coolmore family (sister to Minding and Tuesday), she has run three solid races so far and may well be able to take care of a mark of 86.

SELECTION: DEVORE

3.10 Knockaire Stakes (Listed) 1m

This can go to the Irish Cambridgeshire winner Federal. Joseph O’Brien’s four-year-old did remarkably well to win that 25-runner handicap on just his fourth ever start, not least in that he beat his stablemate Good Heavens into second. Good Heavens had beaten him by four and a half lengths at Cork previously, so Federal took a fair step forward to reverse that form and with such a lightly raced profile, the scope is there for him to improve significantly again.

Emporio is another to consider. He caught the eye when running on for fourth in the Sovereign Path Handicap over seven furlongs at this course, competing off a mark of 98 there. He consolidated that effort when finishing a close fifth to Statement in a listed event at Cork. Back at Leopardstown, he can run a big race.

Glounthaune is the likely favourite and will take a lot of beating if running to the same standard as he did when second to Jadoomi here in the Boomerang Mile, but you have to forgive him a poor run on very soft ground in France since.

SELECTION: FEDERAL

Next best: Emporio

3.45 Ann Hartnett Celebration Handicap 1m

The rain that has fallen in Dublin this week will be a big help to Quizical who can get his head in front. Two wins from 40 starts isn’t a great return but one of those wins came over this course and distance and he’s hit the frame on 11 occasions in all and he prospers on soft ground. More significantly, a mark of 87 will be the lowest rating he’s competed off ever and he showed on his penultimate start at Punchestown that he can still operate at a high level.

Saltonstall finished ahead of him the last day when winning at Tipperary and a 4lb rise seems pretty fair for him. He also has a win over this course and distance so should run well again. Joe Messaria is worth a mention. He was a good winner at Galway two starts ago and should be fine with the likely soft surface.

SELECTION: QUIZICAL

Next best: Saltonstall

4.20 Eyrefield Stakes (Group 3) 1m 1f

It is probably fair to say Hiawatha has failed to live up to expectations so far but he can fire up his career with a win in this Group 3. The €1.2 million full brother to Luxembourg has just one win from four starts but he bumped into a couple of useful juveniles on his first two starts, notably Serious Challenge in a soft ground Galway maiden, before he ran out an easy winner of a mile maiden at the Curragh.

He then dropped back to seven furlongs for the Goffs Million but was outpaced in that contest and should be much better served by this test of stamina.

Keep In Touch should also revel in the conditions. She might have been a little unlucky to finish third in the Group 3 Weld Park Stakes last time out, her jockey dropping his whip close home, and that came off her good Galway maiden win over subsequent Group 3 winner Lumiere Rock. She is out of Unaccompanied, a mare who revelled in heavy ground conditions on the flat and over hurdles.

SELECTION: HIAWATHA

4.55 Manguard Plus Handicap 1m 2f

The step up to 10 furlongs could do the trick for Eloquent Arthur. Denis Hogan’s four-year-old has put together two good runs, both over nine furlongs, where he was staying on well on both occasions, firstly when second to Flame Of Eire in Listowel and then when third to Saltonstall at Tipperary. He handles soft ground fine and despite a poor draw, he can himself involved in the business end.

Tudor City won this last season and has obvious claims again with Jake Coen taking 5lbs off his back. He has more than enough ability to win off a mark of 75 on the flat and a wide draw is less troublesome for him as he will likely be dropped in.

SELECTION: ELOQUENT ARTHUR

Next best: Tudor City

5.30 Corinthian Challenge Charity Race Series 1m 2f

Kojin disappointed on his previous run here on Irish Champions Weekend but it seemed too bad to be true and maybe he can get back to winning ways. Prior to Leopardstown, he won twice at Tramore and over an inadequate trip at Clonmel.

Takarengo has already won a race in this series and has gone well at this track before.
