2.00 “Look De Vega” At Ballylinch Stud Fillies Maiden 1m

Market support will be an important indicator regarding three particularly well-bred newcomers.

Crystal Ball is a Wootton Bassett half-sister to Tepin, Intensify is a full-sister to Newspaperofrecord and Tarima is closely related to Tarnawa.

That Aga Khan homebred may do better over further, making Aidan and Donnacha O’Brien’s fillies the most appealing on paper, and Ballydoyle have won two of the last three runnings of this race.

Made U Look has the benefit of two promising runs last season, firstly getting close to Wemightakedlongway, who lines up in the Ballysax Stakes later today. Her attractive pedigree suggests she’ll be a better three-year-old.

2.35 Ballylinch Stud “Red Rocks” Stakes (Group 3) 7f 30yd

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf winner Henri Matisse, who has another two Group 2 wins and a Group 1 second to his name, is an obvious choice. The only concern is that his trainer, on page 16 of this edition, expresses his preference for fast ground.

The ground is less of a concern for Arizona Blaze, but it’s his first try over this trip. Although he was a speedy juvenile, his dam did win over 10 furlongs.

There have been whisperings about the abilities of Hazdann, perhaps aided by the fact that he beat subsequent Group 2 winner Green Impact when winning his maiden over course and distance last summer.

Comanche Brave appears to have the best form of the remainder, but his best runs have come on firmer ground than he’ll encounter today.

SELECTION: HENRI MATISSE

3.10 Ballylinch Stud “Priory Belle” Stakes (Group 3) 7f 30yd

Barnavara deserves a group win, but that may not happen today, with the twice Group 1-placed Exactly in the line-up. Aidan O’Brien was quite bullish about the course-and-distance Group 3 winner earlier this week, making Ryan Moore’s choice a leading contender.

Rockfel Stakes heroine Bubbling appears to be next in the Ballydoyle rankings, has run well around here and likes a cut in the ground.

Sparkling Sea hasn’t been seen since May of last year, when she chased home subsequent Albany Stakes winner Fairy Godmother, having previously beaten her on debut.

It will be interesting to see how this speedy filly fares over seven furlongs, the same going for listed sprint winner Usdi Atohi, whose dam stretched to a mile and a half.

Six-figure breeze-up buy Carla Ridge won her maiden in the style of a good filly and her pedigree suggests this step up in trip will suit. The form of Cercene and Swelter’s maiden wins has fared well, while Orchidaceae was also a decent two-year-old.

3.45 P.W. McGrath Memorial Ballysax Stakes (Group 3) 1m 2f

The last two winners of this race have been outsiders – Dallas Star at 50/1 and White Birch at 22/1, but it’s hard to get away from Aidan O’Brien’s record of 11 wins and the chances of today’s Group 1-placed contender Delacroix.

Stablemate Puppet Master was disappointing when last seen, but his impressive maiden win rates highly, as the third horse Tennessee Stud went on to win a Group 1. Last year’s winning trainer, Adrian Murray, is enjoying a successful run. He is represented by well-backed debut winner Tiberius Thunder and promising filly Spicy Margarita, who sidestepped her engagement on softer ground last weekend.

SELECTION: DELACROIX

4.20 1888 Restaurant Handicap 1m 2f

It’s interesting that Galveston runs off a rating of 87, considering the horse that chased him home in his maiden is rated 95.

He appears the type that will make a better three-year-old and should appreciate this step up in trip, though Ryan Moore has opted for stablemate Serious Contender.

Mocking finished fifth to Galveston at Naas, which was his best effort, and he appeals on handicap debut, on his first start since being gelded.

He has stamina in his pedigree and the trip is also a positive for Mister Adam, who finished well to take third in a Curragh maiden last time out, as well as Sugar Club, a winner last season and out of a Montjeu mare.

Lady O was a useful juvenile, but is unproven over this trip. Last month’s six-furlong maiden winner Glen To Glen may also be stretched.

This is Migdam’s first start on turf since October 2023, having missed most of last year. He had showed enough promise in his early career to once earn a rating of 96, and comes here fit, off a current rating of 74.

Derry Lad is of interest on his first start for a new yard, especially if he can reproduce last season’s early form. He was particularly unlucky in a valuable 10-furlong handicap at Epsom

Zipster was well-backed on Irish debut, but suffered from a slow start and wide passage. With more luck today, he might be more likely to justify support.

Six furlongs was probably a bit short for Dark Viper two weeks ago, but that run should set him up well for this.

5.30 Sunday 11th May Leopardstown Family Day Handicap 1m

Eastern Wind is twice a winner here, once over this trip, and has to be considered off a career-low mark.

An Laochmor made a respectable handicap debut over seven furlongs last month and is entitled to come on from that. Dundalk also provided a useful prep for Seas And Oceans, whose two turf placings have come in similar conditions to this.

Asisaid comes here from an unsuccessful stint over hurdles and is on a lower mark than his two flat wins.
