1.15 www.angloprinters.ie Maiden Hurdle (Div I) 2m

Kiki Badger is chosen to make a winning start over hurdles. He showed up well in some very useful bumpers last season before returning to the fray with an emphatic success in a Tipperary bumper earlier this month. He has plenty of experience from his time in bumpers and the ability he showed in that sphere suggests he should have no trouble making his mark over hurdles.

He might have most to fear from Viceregent who holds a rating of 114 and lines up off a creditable four-length second to the exciting Marine Nationale at Punchestown last week. The course bumper winner Youralwaysdreamin could be quite interesting despite having a 252-day absence to contend with.

SELECTION: KIKI BADGER

This could see Polo Lounge make a successful start over hurdles. He showed a very solid level of form to post top-four finishes on his first three starts in bumpers and he then availed of a good opportunity at Listowel last month when defeating One For Lucy by just under four lengths. The latter didn’t let the form down with another runner-up finish at Listowel and Polo Lounge appeals as a horse that should make a better hurdler.

He can deal with Catena Zapata who is a capable sort on the flat at his best and he made a solid start over hurdles when running a four-length second to Wee Willie Nail in a Gowran maiden at the start of the month.

SELECTION: POLO LOUNGE

2.25 Dunraven Arms Hotel Novice Hurdle (Listed) 2m 5f

The Friday Man might be the answer to this race. He has enjoyed a fine season so far having won four of his last five starts and last time out he enjoyed a comfortable success in a Navan conditions hurdle over a similar trip to this. That run gives him a clear edge over Another Choice while his third to Salvador Ziggy in quite a useful Galway novice hurdle during the summer is another pointer to his chances.

He is marginally preferred to Ambitious Fellow who boasts an identical rating of 134. The latter won the final of the auction hurdle series at Punchestown last April and has continued to hold his form well since then with his latest run yielding a narrow success in quite a reasonable two-and-a-half-mile novice hurdle at Listowel.

SELECTION: THE FRIDAY MAN

The Cheltenham Festival runner-up Queens Brook should take the beating although she is likely to be somewhat vulnerable on her first start of the season. She did make excellent progress from her comeback run last season and will surely progress well from this run which is her first since she chased home Marie’s Rock in the Mares’ Hurdle at Cheltenham in March.

That Cheltenham run coupled with her rating gives her an edge over the 2021 Coral Cup heroine Heaven Help Us. The latter is another quality mare at her peak and is a formidable opponent for the selection despite not having run since last Easter.

SELECTION: QUEENS BROOK

3.35 JT McNamara Ladbrokes Munster National Handicap Chase (Grade A) 3m

Lieutenant Command is a speculative choice. He has failed to complete on his last two starts and came up short at graded level last winter but might have won a decent handicap chase on his penultimate start at Naas only to exit at the second last.

It is also worth remembering that he is a former course winner who has won first time out for the last three seasons and he readily defeated Max Flamingo to win his beginners’ chase at Fairyhouse last November.

He is chosen ahead of Velvet Elvis who is running for the first time since finishing an excellent eight-length sixth to Lord Lariat in the Irish Grand National. Death Duty can often go well fresh. He and Floueur look the pick of Gordon Elliott’s team. Donkey Years is another notable contender.

SELECTION: LIEUTENANT COMMAND

4.10 PWC Handicap Chase 2m 3f 100yds

This could see Fighting Fit bring up a hat-trick. He won twice over two miles last season and gave the impression on both occasions that he could contend for a good prize at some stage while also looking as though he would progress over a longer trip.

He lacks the advantage of a previous run this season but might still carry the day and he can see off the reliable top-weight Gevrey. The latter can usually be relied upon to run a solid race and lines off a respectable third to Jeremys Flame at Galway earlier in the month.

Street Value could be interesting as he has more to offer as a chaser while Railway Hurricane ran an honourable race against a very useful rival last time when chasing home So Scottish at Tipperary.

SELECTION: FIGHTING FIT

Next best: Gevrey

Malina Girl has to carry top weight but looks equal to the task at hand. She took advantage of a very straightforward opportunity to bolt up in a mares’ beginners’ chase at Roscommon a month ago and prior to that she ran a good fourth to It Could Be You in a competitive handicap chase at Galway early last month.

Galon De Vauzelle might be the pick of the remainder. He was an early casualty at Gowran last time but won over hurdles at Ballinrobe during the summer and it wouldn’t surprise if he had more to offer as a chaser.

SELECTION: MALINA GIRL

Next best: Galon De Vauzelle

5.20 Limerick Post Newspaper INH Flat Race 2m

Polly’s Fortune is from a yard that does well with their newcomers in bumpers. This daughter of Soldier Of Fortune is from a decent jumping family that goes back to the likes of Tullymurry Toff and she is out of a mare who was placed in a bumper from only two starts.

Ellis Boyd Redding is a clear threat having shaped well to take second in a Downpatrick bumper in early May. Emer Elysees shaped much better than the bare result on her debut outing at Cork in May. She is not one to underestimate.

Shoot The Blues is a son of a top sire and his grandam won at Grade 3 level as a jumper in France. He is another to keep in mind.

SELECTION: POLLY’S FORTUNE
