LETTERKENNY’s Dylan Browne McMonagle partnered two winners for his boss, Joseph O’Brien, at the Curragh last weekend, the pair initiating the double in the prestigious DNG Apprentice Derby on Friday evening with the J.P. McManus-owned 3/1 favourite, Common Practice.

Prominent

The three-year-old Gleneagles gelding, who was bred by Noreen McManus, had been off the track for 247 days until finishing fourth of seven at Listowel earlier in the month.

The step-up to 12 furlongs last Friday suited the bay who, prominent throughout, got to the front in the final strides to beat Alma Libre, who had kicked on a furlong down, by half a length.

Dylan brought his double up in Saturday’s Dubai Duty Free Summer Fillies Handicap on the O’Brien-trained Night Of Romance (5/1) who, in the colours of the Thoroughbred Racing Syndicate, outbattled the 9/4 favourite Needle Lace close home to win this Premier Handicap over seven furlongs.

Between that victory and the start of play on Thursday, Browne McMonagle partnered three placed horses, the final one being the Charlie Moore-trained Beer With The Boys who finished second in a division of the extended 12-furlong handicap at Tipperary on Wednesday evening.

Britain

Also on the flat, but in Britain, there were wins for Martin Harley, Patsy Cosgrave (four, including a double for George Boughey at Chester last Saturday), Darragh Keenan (two) and Oisin Orr.

Over jumps, Brian Hughes partnered five winners in the same time frame to move on to the 30-win mark for the season.
