Aghaboy a likely lad for FitzGerald

THE colours of Randox founder and managing director Peter FitzGerald were carried to victory in the opening three-year-old maiden hurdle at Ballinrobe last Friday on the 4/9 favourite, Aghaboy.

Ridden by Kieran Callaghan, the German-bred Protectionist gelding was having his second start for trainer Willie Mullins having been trained previously by Kevin Prendergast for whom he raced seven times on the level.

On his first outing over hurdles, at Killarney early last month, Aghaboy was beaten a neck into second by Pepsiwithacap.

On Tuesday at Punchestown, the J.P. Ledwidge-owned, Andy Oliver-trained Band Width recorded his third success from nine starts when landing the mile handicap under Declan McDonogh.

The following afternoon at Yarmouth, the Max Ervine-bred X J Rascal saw off his sole opponent by a short-head in the mile nursery. This was a second successive success for the Kodiac colt who is out of the Iffraaj mare Fine If.
