MARTINBOROUGH will be relocating from Haras de la Baie in France to Capital Stud’s Kilkenny base for 2025.

A son of the great Japanese stallion Deep Impact, Martinborough is best known in Ireland as sire of Majborough, the 2024 Triumph Hurdle winner, trained by Willie Mullins, who has described the horse as a Gold Cup prospect.

After Majborough’s Triumph Hurdle victory, Mullins commented: “He’s a chaser… When he came into the yard and they said he was our Triumph Hurdle horse, I couldn’t believe it. I said I thought he looked like a Gold Cup horse.”

Martinborough is also the sire of listed hurdle winners Mika D’O, Edwina and Le Garlaban, listed-placed hurdler Inspace and talented chasers Stellomaker, Lion Kirikou and Into The Moon.

On the flat, he is the sire of Elusive Princess, winner of the Grade 3 Saratoga Oaks Invitational Stakes and runner-up in the Group 1 Prix Saint Alary at ParisLongchamp.

Ger O’Neill of Capital Stud in Bennettsbridge said: “We had been keeping an eye on Martinborough for a while and are delighted to have secured him. His pedigree and proven stud record make him an ideal addition to Capital Stud.

“His progeny have shown exceptional ability, and we are confident he will continue to produce quality horses. We are committed to giving him the best opportunity to flourish here in Ireland.”

The deal to secure Martinborough was brokered by John Dwan and Nicky de Belande.

Details regarding his fee and opportunities to view Martinborough will be announced at a later date.
