ON Friday, the Small Horse Young Irelander (suitable for 3-4 year-old horses exceeding 148cm but not over 160cm) featured 13 entrants. Taking the win was Karen Fox’s three-year-old Zidane sired bay mare Lissarulla Miss Zee on a final score of 85 marks.

Taking the runner-up spot was the three-year-old Ganesh Hero-sired mare Seafield Little Lady B on a score of 76. Third place went to Sinead Dalton’s and David Brennan’s Lagans OBOS Quality sired gelding Foxhunter Joe on a total of 75.5.

Later that day, 35 entrants lined out to contest the Young Irelander Horse Final. Claiming the win was the three-year-old mare Caraghs Holly Blue. Owned and bred by the Kelliher family, she is by Chacoon Blue. She clearly impressed the judges finishing on a score of 84.5. The mare was awarded eight for confirmation, 16 for jumping form, 17 for canter, 17 for natural technique, 18 for scope and 8.5 for attitude.

Taking the runner-up spot was Michael Daly’s Cosmos Z-sired stallion Ivy Coast Uptons Cosie on 84 points. Finishing on 82.5 and taking third place was the Pat McDonnell owned and bred three-year-old Vivant van de Heffinck gelding, Ballinagore Beo.

On Saturday, the first of the finals was the Young Event Horse Discovery Final for four-year-old horses. Taking the win was Ciara Power and Stonehaven’s Dreaming. Owned by Power and Dreaming Syndicate, the gelding was bred by Waterford based Vahe Bogassion.

The gelding, who is by Querlybet Hero, was awarded a total of 91 marks out of a possible 100 marks. He was awarded 13 out of 15 for confirmation, 14 out of 15 for movement, 14 out of 15 for canter and gallop, 23 out of a possible 25 for scope and technique, 18 out of 20 for temperament and a high nine out of 10 for potential. On Wednesday, the combination finished fifth in the qualifier.

Out of the 26 that competed in the qualifier on Wednesday, nine took their place in the final. Taking second place was English rider John Tilley and CFH Cornet Vivendi on 90 marks. The mare is by HHS Cornet and was bred by John Carey. In Wednesday’s qualifier the pairing finished fifth on a score of 86 points.

Slotting into third place was Nadine Harte and Coastline Quintero on 85 points. Bred by Robert Hartigan the gelding is by Timone.

Discovery final

Claiming the title in the National Discovery Horse Final (confined to four-year-old horses) was Dreamscape. Owned and bred by Frank Gordon and campaigned by Shane Quinn, the gelding scored a total of 85.5. For confirmation, the gelding was awarded 8 points, 17 for jumping form, 17 for canter, 17 for natural technique, 18 for scope and 8.5 for attitude.

Taking the runner-up prize on 81.5 marks was Katie O Sullivan and GRC Einstein. Bred by Tipperary breeder Rory Costigan, the gelding is by Candy De Nantuel out of Loughnavatta Kestral.

Taking third place when finishing fractionally behind on 81 points was Enzo BW. Ridden by Daren Hopkins and owned by Ballywalter Stables, the gelding is by Emerald.

Winner of the Small Horse Discovery Final (suitable for 4-5 year-old horses exceeding 148cm but not over 160cm) was Patrick Joyce and Canovee Maxi on a score of 78.5.

Bred by Timothy Murphy and owned by Audrey O’Sullivan, the mare is by KEC Maximum Joe out of Rathfilane Beauty. Taking the runner-up place was Aishling Lyons with the I’m Special De Muze gelding, Special Captain, on 77 marks.

Robyn Moran partnered the Colman sired mare, Movie Star, into third place for the owner, Vera Griffin, finishing on a score of 76.5.
