THE National Science Park 1.25m International jump-off class on Sunday at Mullingar was won by Waterford’s Paul Beecher riding his wife Seryna Van Keulen’s Dutch-bred stallion Danqu (Ustinov x Orame).

The pair lodged a jump-off time of 34.63 to prove best of the 78 starters and claim €1,250 in prize money.

Sven Hadley and Louise Carroll’s Fabuleu VD Watertoren (Mister Blue x Chin Chin) were runners-up in 35.58. The Dutch-bred mare La Joya, owned and ridden by Alan O’Regan, was third in 36.53, while Cian McMunn guided the Gabriel Slattery-bred Captain Marko (Captain Clover x Kannan) to fourth in 36.65.

Ecklands Helado, owned by the Duffy Ekberg Stables, was ridden by Katie Nallon into fifth place, while Cora Sharley was sixth with AHG Whiterock Duggie (Ard VDL Douglas x Cruising), bred by Ann Gannon Clancy.

Puissance

The RDS puissance qualifier, sponsored by Irish international riders Kevin Mealiff and Darragh Kenny, drew a select start list of eight combinations. Three were knocked out in round one, which left five going through to the second round.

Two of the five, Jacklyn Breslin riding her own Calle Cool (Orestus x Quantum) and Daniel McAlinden with Chapristi (Chacco Blue x Raphael) saw their hopes fade in round two which left just three going into the third and final round.

Each of the trio kept a clean sheet throughout, clearing the wall at 1.95m to divide first place; they were Robbie Healy and his own KMS Clintland (Clinton x Corland), Oisin Magee riding Paul Curtis’ Landslide AW (Limbus x Carretino), and Jonathan Smyth with Dominic Rice’s home-bred Premier Spirit (Premier Sport x Hermes de Reve).

The criteria for the RDS Puissance class is the horse and rider must have cleared 1.80m so all three of the winners have earned their ticket to the Horse Show in August.
