THE €100,000 Tattersalls Ireland bumper traditionally run on Easter Sunday at Fairyhouse is moving to the Leopardstown Christmas Festival from 2026 onwards.
Renamed the Tattersalls Ireland MSL Mercedes-Benz Sales Bumper, the race is confined to horses catalogued and offered at the Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale and July Store Sale.
It will be run at Leopardstown on December 28th, 2026. The winning vendor will be presented with a Mercedes-Benz GLC on the day.
This year’s Derby Sale will include a number of two-year-olds and these horses will also be eligible to run in the 2026 bumper at Leopardstown as three-year-olds.
The new date also allows graduates who progress through the point-to-point route to remain eligible, even after being sold on to new owners, making this the only sales bumper of its kind to offer such an opportunity.
Previous winners of the race include Grade 1 winners Brighterdaysahead and Kopek Des Bordes. It was previously named after George Mernagh, former CEO of Tattersalls Ireland, who died in 2011.
Simon Kerins, who holds that position now, said: “George was a driving force behind the Derby Sale and a hugely popular figure among staff and clients alike.
“His passion, vision, and warmth left a lasting impact on so many, and while the race now moves forward under a new identity, we remain committed to finding a meaningful way to continue honouring his legacy at Tattersalls Ireland.”
