Bertram Allen voted Star of the Month

CONGRATULATIONS to Bertram Allen who was voted The Irish Field/Gain Equine Nutrition Star of the Month for July. Bertram was nominated after his five-star win in the LGCT Grand Prix of La Coruna with Pacino Amiro (ISH). Well done Bertram!

Faherty appointed Horse World Editor JUDITH Faherty has been appointed the editor of Irish Horse World. Judith joined The Irish Field as an intern in January 2016 following the completion of her studies in Journalism and New Media at the University of Limerick. Joining the Irish Horse World team as a journalist is Lesley Hunter Nolan. Lesley brings a wealth of media experience to the role, having spent almost two decades working as a journalist and editor in Ireland and Australia.

Correction/addition

APOLOGIES to Vitaliy Halstyan who was referred to as a ‘she’ in one part of the Connemara Performance report from the Dublin Horse Show in last week’s paper. Vitaliy is based in Kilshane, Co Tipperary, and helped trained many clients to big success at the Dublin Horse Show.

It is also important to give a mention to Eva Lowry who played a part in the victory of champion cob, Samuel McAteer’s Randalstown Rigsby. The McAteers were in touch to say that Eva helped prepare the five-year-old gelding at some local shows and lightly hunted him over the winter.

Royal Friesian Studbook inspection

FOR the first time in nearly a decade, the Royal Friesian Horse Studbook (KFPS) will be holding an inspection in Ireland, organised by the Friesian Horse Association of Great Britain and Ireland (FHAGBI) (trading as United Kingdom Friesian Horse Studbook). The inspection is open to owners of pure-bred Friesian horses in both the north and south of Ireland and will take place at Portmore Equestrian Centre on September 22nd 2023 and is open to spectators (free admission).

IDHBA National Breed Show

THE IDHBA National Breed Show is taking place on September 2nd at Punchestown Racecourse in Co Kildare. This year’s flagship event boasts €11,300 in prize money, 37 national titles, a foal class and stallion parade, plus professional sales video service on site. AMCS Limerick Show

TOMORROW (Sunday) sees the 94th renewal of Limerick Show run at Limerick Racecourse in Patrickswell. It has a full programme of events ranging from a Racehorse to Riding Horse class, sponsored by Tattersalls, TIHA classes, show jumping, cattle, a dog show and much more. As a new innovation, Limerick Show will feature a career village where Limerick’s leading hi-tech firms will be seeking new talent.

Scariff Show prizes

SCARIFF Show was launched earlier this week and offers a number of well-sponsored horse classes at its annual show on Sunday, September 3rd, including nominations to Enda and Shirley Corry’s Chelis HC Z, sire of recent Dublin-winning progeny; Jonathan Flynn’s Imnotafraidfortuna; a choice of Liam O’Meara’s show jumping stallions and a Coolballyshan Stud voucher from Kieran Kennedy. There’s also a range of Connemara, lead-rein and local pony classes. World championship bids

THE FEI has confirmed the shortlisted bidders for the FEI World Championships 2026. The shortlist comprises five Organising Committees who have applied to host events in various disciplines. They are Aachen (GER) who have applied to host the six disciplines of jumping, dressage, para dressage, eventing, driving four-in-hand, vaulting; Boekelo (eventing); Burghley (eventing); Al Ula (endurance) and Samorin (endurance).

The FEI Board will allocate the FEI World Championships 2026 at its in-person Board Meeting on November 18th 2023 in Mexico City.

George Mernagh Fund

THE George Mernagh Memorial Fund (GMMF) and the Eventing Ireland Youth Committee (EIYC) have agreed on up to €40,000 of support to aid young riders in many different ways. Subsidised regional training programmes with High Performance trainers available locally to all youth members. Bursaries are available to entice riders of a certain standard to attend their first international. The partnership is also offering a once-off bursary to an U25 member who has plans to become a professional. There is also an allowance for a Youth Exchange initiative, covering a High Performance manager and team groom during the upcoming trip to Saint Quentin, France, in October.

THE Gain/Alltech National Grand Prix due to take place at Killossery today (Saturday) has been cancelled due to low entries.
