AS foaling season gathers pace, a number of stallion farms have announced the first arrivals by their new sires.
On Wednesday, Coolmore revealed that the first foal by Paddington had arrived at Ecurie des Monceaux, where the multiple Group 1 winner himself was raised. Following the filly’s arrival, Monceaux’s Henri Bozo commented: “She is a very well-balanced filly with a lot of class and presence. We are very happy.”
The filly is out of the Galileo mare Amalna, a half-sister to last season’s Group 3 winner Dare To Dream, and hails from the family of Danedream. Amalna’s first produce, a filly by Starspangledbanner, sold for €360,000 last August.
Coolmore’s National Hunt recruit Pyledriver has also welcomed his first foal, a colt bred by Youghal-based breeder David Browne out of Jesse’s Oscar. “He’s a very athletic colt, great colour, lots of quality and good bone,” Browne said of the Beeches Stud sire’s foal.
The colt was born on January 27th, eight days after his half-brother Gillets Hill won the five-year-old geldings maiden at Carrigarostig by eight lengths. The bay has since been sold to continue his career with Warren Greatrex.
Bradley impressed by Mostahdaf colt
Mostahdaf is among the British sires making an impression with his first foals, according to the dual Group 1 winner owner/breeder Shadwell.
Nick Bradley was among those to support Mostahdaf in his first season at Beech House Stud, sending Seven Empires, a sister to five Stakes winners, including Group 2 winner and Group 1 performer Sevenna’s Knight.
“Seven Empires’ colt is strong, correct, athletic with good bone,” Bradley commented. “I’m very happy with him and I will be sending Mostahdaf two more mares this year.”
Meanwhile, over in France, breeders are posting glowing reports on the first foals by the Aga Khan Studs’ Champion Three-Year-Old Vadeni and group-winning miler Erevann. Julie Mestrallet of Haras de l’Aumônerie described the Vadeni colt foal out of Romelia as having “an expressive head with great strength and a compact frame, and he is a very good mover.”
Among the first foals by Dubawi’s well-bred son Erevann was a colt out of Schmusli born at Haras d’Etreham at the end of January. The foal was bred by Gestüt Zur Küste and is described by Nicolas de Chambure as “a good foal who has a lot of strength and good balance - he already makes a great impression.”
