BRITISH show jumper Harry Charles is in a race against time to be fit in time for the Paris Olympic Games, after a fall last weekend at CHIO Aachen in Germany.
Charles suffered a nasty fall from the nine-year-old Irish Sport Horse Bandit when jumping Friday’s 1.60m. The horse pulled a shoe in the middle of the combination and stumbled. The horse was uninjured, but Charles sustained two fractures in his wrist and arm.
The world number nine ranked rider has been named to ride Romeo 88 at the Paris Olympic Games. Immediately after the fall, he told the press he would get a second opinion when home in England and “do his very best to be able to compete in Paris”. No further update was provided by the time we went to press. He was named on the list of definite entries, published on Thursday (July 11th).
Harry is joined on the team by the reigning Olympic champion Ben Maher (Point Break) and Scott Brash (Hello Jefferson). The alternate position in Paris will be filled by Joe Stockdale (Equine America Cacharel).
Meanwhile, after a few weeks of speculation, Yasmin Ingham is the one to miss out on the eventing team slot in Paris.
She was named as the alternate athlete behind Laura Collett (London 52), Ros Canter (Lordships Graffalo) and reigning Olympic silver medallist, Tom McEwen (JL Dublin).
