CHELTENHAM Racecourse will be enveloped in a sea of yellow on Friday, December 10th for the launch of Tiggy’s Trust at its International meeting.
Tiggy’s Trust is a charitable foundation set up in memory of Tiggy Hancock, the Co Carlow teenager who died in a riding accident last June. In recent months Tiggy’s favourite colour yellow has been worn by jockeys and equestrians across the world as a sign of support and acknowledgement of her short but inspirational life.
Now racing fans have a golden opportunity to support the initiative while also having an unforgettable experience by snapping up a raceday package for as little as €160, which covers flights, transfers and race tickets.

A special marquee at Cheltenham on December 10th will house 700 guests, including A.P. McCoy, Ruby Walsh and Olympic eventing gold medallist Laura Collett.
Funds raised will be used to assist various charities including the Injured Jockeys Fund and Pony Racing Authority.
There will also be two fundraising auctions, one on the day and another online from December 1st. Full details will be revealed shortly.
Frank Hancock, Tiggy’s father, explained how the idea of turning Cheltenham yellow came about. “A friend told me that they turned Lords cricket ground pink in memory of a cancer victim and it raised a lot of money. He said ‘We should do this for Tiggy’ and then it was a case of deciding which racecourse to pick.
“We picked Cheltenham for three reasons. Firstly, it is the most ‘Irish’ racecourse in Britain and we wanted to reflect Irish and British traditions, because we are a British family who have lived very happily in Ireland for 20 years. We have always felt very welcome in Carlow and we were proud Tiggy rode for Ireland.
“Secondly, Cheltenham is, in my view, the most beautiful racecourse in the world, and it is the home of jump racing.”
“Thirdly, the Injured Jockeys Fund (UK) approached us with the offer of an amazing partnership. They plan to launch a special educational programme for young jockeys and more details will be announced at Cheltenham next month.”
Mr Hancock did not mention Covid restrictions but it is likely that it would have been impossible to stage this fundraiser at an Irish racecourse at the moment.
Cheltenham Racecourse manager Ian Renton said: “We are both honoured and delighted to welcome Tiggy’s family and friends to Cheltenham and will do everything we can to support the launch of this wonderful new Trust in her memory.”
