ICE, snow and freezing conditions plagued the country for the past week, with temperatures plunging to a low of minus 7.5 degrees in the early hours of Thursday. The weather has caused widespread challenges for equestrians, with a number of events being cancelled or postponed as a result.
North Munster Dressage cancelled this Sunday’s (January 12th) show at Clonshire, with their next show due to be held at the same venue on January 26th. Katrina Brosnahan from Clonshire confirmed they were snowed in and unable to operate the business with no power for three days. However, she said the horses and ponies were enjoying the break and play time in the snow.
Kilguilkey House and Hillcrest also postponed their planned two-phase events due to the weather. Hillcrest will move this Sunday’s event to January 19th and Kilguilkey House will now run on Sunday, January 26th. The Munster arena eventing league will then commence the following week.
Pony measuring scheduled for today, Saturday, January 11th, at Tipperary EC has been postponed until tomorrow, Sunday, at the same venue with the same times as previously allocated and entries open until Saturday night.
