Tullow Show on Sunday
TULLOW Agricultural Show, also known as the County Carlow Show, is on tomorrow (Sunday, August 20th) and expects to welcome around 10,000 visitors to the popular event. Founded in 1946, the Show takes place at the picturesque showground in Coppenagh, just outside Tullow town. The busy schedule includes equestrian, livestock, dogs and domestic arts with All-Ireland Championship Finals and Qualifiers. All are most welcome.
Scariff entries deadline

Jane Kealey RIP
ULSTER Region Showjumping announced with great sadness the death of Ulster Region amateur rider Jane Kealey, who passed peacefully at her home. Jane was well known on the amateur circuit for her competitiveness and warm, friendly manner. During the 2022 Ulster Region Awards Ball, Jane was presented with the leading AA rider by Ulster Region chairman Paddy Ward, and numerous wins and placings throughout the year. Jane will be sorely missed by all, and the Ulster Region would like to pass on their deepest condolences to Jane’s husband John, daughter Frankie and all family members during this very sad time. May she rest in peace.
Gillian Connors RIP
THE death occurred last Sunday of Gillian (Gillie) Connors (née de Blank) of Kilcop, Woodstown, Co Waterford, formerly of Pallas Stud. Predeceased by her husband Mick and her brother Martin, Gillie will be sadly missed by her loving children Francis, Caroline, Lucy, Helen, Gill, Sarah and Miley, daughters-in-law Helen and Margeaux, sons-in-law Chuck, Jack and Darragh, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister Judy, sisters-in-law Peg and Jill, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and friends.
Requiem Mass took place on Wednesday in the Holy Cross Church, Dunmore East followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. Donations, if desired, to Waterford Palliative Care Team.
’The Great Masters’ out now
For those interested in dressage and the teachings of the great classical equitation masters, there is a new book entitled ‘The Great Masters’ (Volume 1), which is available now on Amazon. Caroline Stephens, a pupil of Einar Schmit-Jensen, has put together this work based on his archives and writings. Caroline and her aunt Katherine Kenny were pupils of Schmit-Jensen for over a decade in Foxrock. Copies can be obtained by emailing Infoclassicalequestrian@gmail.com and will be shipped within Ireland. Caroline has previously published his translation of the Dressage Master Faverot de Kerbrech and ‘The Great Masters’ is her latest published work which will be reviewed in Irish Horse World in an upcoming issue.
Eventing Ireland National
championships moved to Kilguilkey
EVENTING Ireland announced the National Championships due to take place at Castle Irvine, Necarne, on September 9th and 10th have been moved to Kilguilkey. A statement said: “It is with great regret and disappointment that due to the current ground conditions and poor weather forecast, the organisers of the National Championships to be held at Castle Irvine, Necarne, have made the difficult decision to cancel. We can now confirm that the National Championships will now take place at Kilguilkey House, Mallow, Co Cork, on the same weekend. Any member who has entered the National Championships at Necarne and can’t compete at Kilguilkey, can withdraw their entry via their members area of the website.”
