Teagasc short courses

TEAGASC Equine Specialists are offering two short courses for the autumn/winter period, both provided as blended learning formats (Zoom classes and on farm Workshop). An equine breeding/ reproduction course commences October 25th while and equine health management course follows on November 17th.

Passing of Willie

McDonnell RIP

THE death occurred on Monday of well known horseman William (Willie) McDonnell of Pallas Stud, Pallasmore, Nenagh, Co Tipperary. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family in the great care of the staff at the University Hospital Limerick.

Predeceased by his parents Pat and Bridget McDonnell, his sisters Winifred and Mary, Willie was the beloved husband of Peggy and loving father of Pat, John, William, Brian, Kevin and Noel.

Much loved, he will be sadly missed by his loving family, sisters Bridget and Sarah, daughters-in-law Frieda and Becky, Noel’s partner Casey, his adored grandchildren Saoirse, Lily, Sasha, Finn and Sloane and extended relatives, neighbours and friends.

His funeral Mass was held yesterday (Friday) at the Church of the Holy Spirit, Youghalarra, Newtown, followed by burial in Youghalarra Cemetery.

CAFRE Open Days

CAFRE is hosting Open Days from Tuesday, October 11th to Saturday, October 15th at their Enniskillen campus and all are invited to come along.

Book to attend the Saturday Open Day on October 15th and meet students and staff, who will guide you around CAFRE’s fabulous equine facilities. During the tours, you will get the chance to ask questions and gain an insight into life at CAFRE.

Enniskillen Campus is located three miles outside Enniskillen town in the lakeland county of Fermanagh. CAFRE offers BSc Honours Degrees and Foundation Degrees in partnership with Ulster University.

CAFRE’s ethos is very much ‘learning by doing’. At each campus, highly qualified, experienced staff use the superb practical facilities to demonstrate the latest science, technology, innovation, and business management techniques to students.

Approximately 70 horses are kept at Enniskillen Campus which provide our equine students with stimulating opportunities to benefit from hands-on experience. Students work with a range of horses in the equine breeding, equitation, racing, farriery, and student horse livery units.

Young breeder training

‘YOUNG breeder’ training takes place at Dohyle House Stud, Askeaton, Co. Limerick on Saturday, October 15th. Those aged 15 to 25 years of age are most welcome to attend.
