KEVIN Coleman, manager at Laytown Races for the past 25 years, will retire at the end of this year. Next month’s September 8th fixture on the strand will be the last under his management.

“It has been an absolute privilege and honour,” Coleman said. “I grew up and lived in Laytown for 30 years, so the village and the race meeting are very close to my heart.

“During my time at Laytown Races, I’ve met some lovely people and made some lifetime acquaintances. It was a pleasure to serve under two chairmen, Niall Delaney and Joe Collins, and work together to improve the facilities and raceday experience for all our patrons. I’m looking forward to going racing to Laytown in a much more relaxed capacity.”

Laytown Races chairperson Joe Collins commented: “On behalf of the Laytown Races Committee, I would like to sincerely thank Kevin for his incredible service and commitment. During his time, Kevin has played a pivotal role in the success of our unique beach race meeting, and we wish him and his family all the best.”

Laytown will commence the recruitment process for Coleman’s replacement in due course.
