IRISH Oaks heroine Magical Lagoon will be among a strong Irish raiding party at York’s Ebor meeting this coming week.

The Jessica Harrington-trained filly heads for the Yorkshire Oaks on Thursday when she could also face Paddy Twomey’s Pretty Polly winner La Petite Coco, who is also on target for that 12-furlong contest.

Michael Donohoe, racing manager to Magical Lagoon’s owner Zhang Yuesheng, said: “We’re all set and, pending everything goes to plan, it will be all systems go for York.

“She has done really well since the Irish Oaks. Would you believe the Tuesday after the Curragh she put on 4kg on the weighing scales which was remarkable really.

“She’s super tough and her work has never been better, we think she’s after improving significantly from the Curragh.

“I think everything will suit her at York, the ground and the big galloping track there.

“Listen, it’s going to be a tough one but we’d be more hopeful of a big run than we were going into the Curragh.”

Tuesday is among a number of entries Aidan O’Brien has in the race, while Ger Lyons could also be represented by Cairde Go Deo and Thunder Kiss.

The standout race of the week is undoubtedly the Juddmonte International which sees Baaeed put his unbeaten record on the line racing over a new trip of an extended 10 furlongs, facing last year’s highly impressive winner Mishriff and 2000 Guineas winner Native Trail.

Baaeed’s trainer William Haggas spoke confidently about the Sea The Stars colt this week: “It feels right to me. You’d think that he can just sit and wait and let it all unfold and then if his turn of foot is there.

“I think Jim (Crowley) has a lot of confidence in him and trusts the horse to quicken. It’s really exciting; it’s strange to talk about it because he just does it and he’s done it every single time. He’s had lots of publicity recently. He’s had lots of cameras this week and he takes it in his stride, much better than his trainer!”

Friday’s feature, the Nunthorpe Stakes, looks short both on quality and Irish interest. James Tate’s unexposed filly Royal Acclaim heads the betting but has only a listed win to her name. The same day’s Lonsdale Cup should garner more fascination through Stradivarius who is favourite to win the race for a fourth time in five years with Kyrpios unlikely to be in his way again and the ground probably set to go against Trueshan.
