MENTIONED in our Pony Tales column last week, former junior international event rider Correna Bowe suffered mixed emotions at Cheltenham on Thursday.
First, she led up the Sam Curling-trained Angels Dawn who was bidding for a repeat victory in the concluding Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Handicap Chase under Pa King. The nine-year-old Yeats mare was challenging for the lead when falling two out, leaving the race at the mercy of Inothewayurthinkin who won by eight lengths in the hands of Derek O’Connor.
Once Angels Dawn was safely back in her box and tucked away for the night, Correna made her way to the sales ring where her recent Ballycahane point-to-point maiden winner, Echoing Silence, was being shown to potential purchasers by Toni Quail. Also trained by Curling and coming up as Lot 12 from his Skehanagh Stables, the once-raced four-year-old Doyen filly was knocked down for £410,000 to Peter Molony’s Rathmore Stud. Correna and her father J.J. paid €28,000 for the bay at Tattersalls Ireland’s July Sale last year.
