BARRY Geraghty has taken a new role at the Irish Jockeys Association on a consultancy basis.

His position will see him liaising with Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board officials and other bodies within the industry, including the Association of Irish Racehorse Owners, the Irish Racehorse Trainers Association and Horse Racing Ireland (through equuip) as part of riders’ career coaching and development.

Andrew Coonan, executive secretary of the IJA, said: “The Irish Jockeys Association are delighted to have the opportunity to work with Barry. With his wealth of experience both in Ireland and the UK, Barry will be a huge asset to our members.

“Barry has already been liaising with some of our riders and it is already clear to see that his understanding of racing and what is involved on a daily basis is a great benefit.

“His experience, along with his television work, his bloodstock interests and his career coaching, make him a great asset to the Irish Jockeys Association.”

Geraghty added: “Andrew spoke to me some time ago and, following discussions, we both quickly realised that I had something to offer to the riders on a day-to-day basis including developing their careers.

“Racing has been my life and, having been a board member of the IJA for several years, I saw this as a great opportunity to work with the present IJA members in developing their careers and helping them achieve their greatest potential.

“From the work I have done so far with them, I am already finding the role hugely fulfilling. I really look forward to developing this further.”
